[Futurelandia] The Wonderful Christmas (and maybe into New Years stuff too)

[ Their pack's Christmas tended to be one which was full and chaotic, despite the fact that there were increasingly less children in the house as Yamato and Junko (and yes, Koji too) all grew to maturity. In some ways, this was actually more "kids" than had been in the house for it than in a long time, what with their new additions.

Still: Masaomi, Nariko, Ada, Sullivan, Emily, Octavio, Tom, Yamato, Junko, Koji, Veronica, and Audrey - Twelve people with at least one gift for everyone else, often times more in the case of those who were more generous or had deeper pockets or more to impress others with. The sheer number (even if it had grown over time) is probably what prompted them to set up a grate tree in one of the living room spaces which was probably meant to be a formal dining room and then lay out all the presents from everyone wrapped up under it andt hen sprawled out for a wide area around it all. There's chairs set up in a circle around the room to give everyone room to sit and the first one there (Which if, of course, Masaomi) brought bags for the wrapping paper to go into a recycle.

Also Masaomi has on a santa hat and a fake beard. Both of which Ada picked out years ago, and he wears mostly out of tradition. It's similarly out of tradition that he got up at the ass crack of dawn to sit in the room and eat some rice before anyone else got up, wait for them all to filter on in here usually starting with Ada or Sullivan or in recent years his eldest son so people can start to make breakfast and be ready. But either way, breakfast and present opening in the morning! A white elephant gift exchange game in the afternoon! A big dinner in the evening!

Christmas is a time of togetherness, where there has to be some structure, but there's a lot which can happen beyond all that and often did. Movies watched, songs sung, and even if this year of different and strange for a variety of reasons... well. It was still their day, and everyone would enjoy it. ]

[Lana smiles and pretty much hops off - literally, because in her book it was a positive meeting, and she's happier for it!

Nariko notices the pull in his grip and can't help giving him a curious look. It's not as if the man isn't possessive but, not counting this morning, she can't remember the last time he reacted like this.]

Oh? Well, we can talk about it.

[Over waffles and eggs and slightly weak coffee, like they always do. The New Year is always very confusing! It's knowing that things have changed while feeling as if everything has remained the same, but they'll get through it.]

[ Nariko looked over his shoulder for it! But all the same, he grins and pulls her to the door. He'll drive them, it's the same place as usual, right? And he's admittedly leaving Emily high and dry but oh well, the little note about his fortune was at much for her as anyone. He kisses Nariko again once they get out of the door ]

Did you like your own?

[ Fortune, that is. Both of them got sort of midling ones this year, so it's a little bit up in the air. Still, it'll jn ]st give them something to talk abut as they go and get to the waffles in question ]

[They talked about the marriage proposal part briefly! Well, maybe the travel part was just a reference to their trip? But that'd be pretty anticlimactic of their fortunes to only represent one portion of the year itself. She returns the outside kiss, still a little pleasantly surprised at the sudden affection. She'd been a little worried that the talk itself might ... Dampen his spirit for a bit.]

Mm.

[... Did she? Who knows.] Well, I've been doing really well in school so I want that to go on!

[Yes, just the usual place on the corner, not too far from their house.] The marriage part was odd, I suppose.

[ Small blessings, at that. But he nods along with it. He rolls his neck, and ... yeah, he's not even sure what to make of that marriage proposal thing just yet. ]

Mmmm, it could have to do with someone around me, I think.

[ He nods ] But it's good you got the bigger blessing than me I think.

[She kind of wishes she'd never even seen it, to be honest, so really just screw the universe on that one. And also screw it further for creating so much change in just a few months because it wasn't very long ago that she still looked at wedding dresses just because they're incredibly beautiful.]

Ah, maybe it's Lisa!

[That'd make sense. She head tilts at him, though.]

Why in the world is that a good thing?

[Of course she doesn't want a terrible one or anything but she'd actually been a little upset he didn't get a better one.]

Well, because you deserve every blessing in the world, don't you? [ He says this with a little sense of sincerity! Or well, a lot! But there's also a mile long sly streak in how he says it, leaning in towards her a bit despite being the one driving. ... Which results in the car jerking in a weird way so he corrects himself in favor of looking back at the road, laughing a little.

Oh, it could be Lisa now I think of it.

[She's weirdly amazed by all that until the car jerks and she ends up giggling with him. He's right, of course, and that is incredibly sweet of him, but she's always been fine whether it's a good or bad fortune! So if she does get something good, she can't help feeling Masaomi deserves it more.]

I guess we'll have to go through the whole year and see what happens.

[She looks at him briefly before facing forward again.] I'm looking forward to it either way.

Haaaah. It always leaves me a little impatient, but I've always been like that... rushing forward and not really looking as close as I should at what's going on. I'm hoping to become better about that, if I'm honest.

[ He hums a little. Perhaps a bit too serious? Maybe too serious. His giggle trails off into the air, and he rolls his neck at this stop sign. It's just across this intersection - the parking lot for the waffle place ]

Mm, but that's a part of your appeal.

[Not entirely, but it's an aspect. But the sight of the waffle place puts a permanent smile on her face.] I guess it's your New Year's resolution, though?

Mmm, you know, I'll take it! That's not a bad one.

[ And... passed! Let's get a parking spot in the back of the lot just do he doesn't need to deal with other drivers and it's not big anyway and they can make their way in! ]

[Park where your heart leads you, Masaomi, Nariko's busy yawning anyway, because apparently some part of her is still trying to wake up.]

There's gonna be so much syrup.

[Before they go in she moves to wrap her arm around his.]

[ So much syrup, huh... she means the waffles, of course, but given that they were at least sort of on the subject of their fortunes before now, Masaomi decides he'll craft a joke, at that moment where she yawns is a great opening for it. Arm in arm as they head towards the door, he grins and quips ]

That'll make a boat ride that much harder.

[ Brilliant humor, clearly. ]

[Considering the nature of her fortune and her feelings about the most controversial part of it, is it any real surprise the topic flits away from her pretty quickly? And then there was his, too. While it's difficult to believe that hearing about two things that were once so important to her are now just upsetting, that's how it is. Shit changes, and unfortunately he was always right - you can't know everything about a person. It's useless to try.

If nothing else his quip takes her out of a pretty depressing part of her head.]

You realize that just made me think about how much fun an ocean of syrup would be, right?

[ Fun. huh... it might be a little bit fun, all things considered! But hey, she's the one who insists on the waffles (he doesn't dislike the waffles though don't get it twisted) and the reason he's opening the door for them now, blinking at the dimmer lighting inside of the place ]

[Once they're in she sighs pleasantly, because while it's dim there's the smell of coffee (slightly burnt), the sound of cooks hollering ... She likes it. It's comforting after the insanity of New Years Eve, which has included a lot of drinking, a lot of sex, and a lot of antics - usually all at once time. [It's a whole thing to get into and she's already doing a bad job of explaining it. Lana had taken to her like black on latex, and since Nariko didn't exactly hide her life, she'd inevitably wanted to know more about Masaomi.]

[ He has a lot of things to process in that response, so might as well respond to the last thing first, that just makes sense. The guy waves his finger in the air, and then presses it on the table between them, giving an almost sheepish shrug. He then grins a little more and leans back ]

[ A sage nod ] But no, I met her early in the night, and in retrospect, Emily was clearly trying to introduce us because she popped up later to talk more.

[Oh, the scheming one just happened to point out the young woman with the infatuation! That wasn't playing to Masaomi's desire for attention and domination at all! It takes a bit of work to shove back the response that's crawling up her throat but she manages it when their waiter arrives, asking about drinks. Since she already knows what she wants Nariko goes ahead and orders.]

I'm glad you got along.

[Although that they got along that well might be ... Interesting, to say the least.]

[ He sighs... should he ask about Yamato in turn? Nah, maybe in a bit, once he gets some tea this morning. Right now, he just smirks a bit more, rolls his eyes, and leans his head against his palm and holds out the other hand so he can take one of hers. He... ]

I was calling her Jello Girl all night in my head.

[Tea sounds good, she almost regrets asking for coffee. She reaches over to hold his hand.]

What? [How weird. But there has to be an explanation for it.] Why that, of all things?

[Probably because it was a mess of a party with gross amounts of alcohol and drugs, and nothing has to make sense after the first fifteen minutes when you walk into one of those situations.]

Because I first ran into her when asked to suck jello out of her belly button.

[ He says this factually. He knows it might get her ire but... he doesn't think that it'll be a big problem in the grand scheme of things. So he shrugs his shoulders and squeezes her hand back. Nothing he did was wrong, just perhaps a little bit tacky all things considered ]

Then later in the night when she was passed out.

[ He tilts his head ]

Well, that'd do it.

[... Is that supposed to upset her or something? It doesn't. Mostly she just kind of strokes her finger over one side of his hand, an idle little habit while she waits for her food. She probably would call it a bit tacky, but it's not her job nor her right to police what he does.

Besides, she's mostly glad he didn't get arrested or something.]
