[ Their pack's Christmas tended to be one which was full and chaotic, despite the fact that there were increasingly less children in the house as Yamato and Junko (and yes, Koji too) all grew to maturity. In some ways, this was actually more "kids" than had been in the house for it than in a long time, what with their new additions.

Still: Masaomi, Nariko, Ada, Sullivan, Emily, Octavio, Tom, Yamato, Junko, Koji, Veronica, and Audrey - Twelve people with at least one gift for everyone else, often times more in the case of those who were more generous or had deeper pockets or more to impress others with. The sheer number (even if it had grown over time) is probably what prompted them to set up a grate tree in one of the living room spaces which was probably meant to be a formal dining room and then lay out all the presents from everyone wrapped up under it andt hen sprawled out for a wide area around it all. There's chairs set up in a circle around the room to give everyone room to sit and the first one there (Which if, of course, Masaomi) brought bags for the wrapping paper to go into a recycle.

Also Masaomi has on a santa hat and a fake beard. Both of which Ada picked out years ago, and he wears mostly out of tradition. It's similarly out of tradition that he got up at the ass crack of dawn to sit in the room and eat some rice before anyone else got up, wait for them all to filter on in here usually starting with Ada or Sullivan or in recent years his eldest son so people can start to make breakfast and be ready. But either way, breakfast and present opening in the morning! A white elephant gift exchange game in the afternoon! A big dinner in the evening!

Christmas is a time of togetherness, where there has to be some structure, but there's a lot which can happen beyond all that and often did. Movies watched, songs sung, and even if this year of different and strange for a variety of reasons... well. It was still their day, and everyone would enjoy it. ]

[If anything proves that Yamato really did end up with his own inheritance of charm then it's that line, because he delivers it incredibly well, enough that she grins kind of stupidly as a result.] Flattery gets you everywhere with me.

[As it pretty much always has. She leans over to kiss him just barely, mostly to have fun with him.] And to think there was a time where I thought you would never be attracted to me.

[That period of time was barely even six months ago, it's a little crazy to think that so much has changed for the better in such an incredibly small amount of time.]

[ How could she ever think that? The idea was completely alien to him, and he blushes a little bit as a result of both that and the kiss. Once more, stepping into the stream of water more completely, the young man wraps his arm around her and holds her close, once more mirroring that whole Adonis pose.

It really did make him feel cool ]

[Because delusion is a strong emotion, and so is fear. And while Yamato might feel cool Nariko just ends up feeling safe with him, which might be nonsensical, but it just is. He's her mate, it's impossible to feel anything but happy and taken care of.] Not that I'm going to complain if you do, [She kisses his jaw.] the real problem has been solved.

[No more fears, no more concerns, she couldn't even name any of them if asked.]

I'd rather be silly than wrong. [She would rather figure out the complexities as they go than ignore the state of things.]

[ Silly than wrong, huh... So she didn't want to hope?

... He could understand that. He didn't want to hope either, and it's a factor and how he had spiraled so badly several months ago to get as backed up as he did. But right now, eyes locked with her and the water matting down his bangs, he was pretty sure he would be stronger. He could be cool, he could be strong? Nariko made him feel that much stronger. ]

You're going to look -- great in the dress you've got for tonight. We'll be the prettiest couple on the floor.

The prettiest, and the most in love. [They can't forget that part. And even though she still wants him it feels wrong to rush the moment they've got, though she does reach up to get his bangs out of the way, it's an incredibly loving, if simple, gesture.]

Although if you want the full effect, you should wait for me to meet you, so you see it all put together.

[Is it really any surprise that she likes the idea of an entrance, and surprising him? And with that comes the quiet understanding that pretty much everyone could look all they wanted, but there was only one person she belonged to, no one else would even register.]

[ And most in love. His smile actually turns from something loving and ego-stroking to something a lot more awkward and a lot more gentle. His smile quirks some, and he blushes aside everything. It'd be obnoxious to ask if she wanted him to wash her hair, right? Maybe he should ask her to do his though, it felt nice to have her push back his wet bangs. He does respond, though, ]

Yeah, how could... I forget? [ haha. ... Man though - ] That'd ruin the surprise of where you reserved, though.

[ So which surprise is more potent. ... Also should they be rushing now? He's sure not trying to. It might just be the hotel restaurant for all he knows, but. ]

[He's gonna fuck her ass, hair washing is infinitely more run of the mill than that. Besides, she's still a natural mother hen in all sorts of ways, genuine shows of intimacy like that are right up her alley.]

It's the hotel restaurant, though! The surprise is in how it looks!

[And in where it is, specifically. But he'll see. But of course the outfit surprise is going to be more important to her, she's too obsessed with fashion for it to have been anything else.]

[ A beat ] I hope my suit looks near as good next to it all.

[ Maybe he's just a natural worrier, even if it's hard to worry with his arms around her like this. He grins, looking down at her and becoming charged all over again, his scent pulsing in the enclosed shower. ]

[She almost always does, though! But that's something Yamato will learn as they go along, and she can't help wondering if he's picked that up from her, too. But his concern only makes her shake her head and lean in to kiss his cheek. She can withstand the gravity of his scent just long enough for that and,]

You'll be spectacular.

[But they're edging out of that topic now, aren't they? The funny thing is that while she's obviously affected by him it all feels seamless. There's no violent shift in her, no altering of her usual instincts. Maybe it's because he's her son or maybe they are truly that compatible. It makes her weirdly eager to give into it.]

Yamato. [She's saying his name just to say it, she's excited and it shows in how she kisses him, in the way her scents threads in with his.]

[ Spectacular... He wants to be that, to her. She was his first love, and he wanted to always be someone special and cool in her eyes, someone to love and someone who could lead her through things. He probably wasn't old or experienced or secure enough for all of that, but the thought of it was still something he could aspire to. Walking arm and arm or hand in hand with his beloved ... Mate. Well, his mate and his girlfriend, someone who he could always be besides. Maybe he always wanted to make that ring a promise. and maybe she would have her own surprises and promises tonight.

But right now, being kissed by her under this fall of warm water, the young man chuckles in a somewhat awkward but definitely hopeful way before kissing her back, both cheeks and then lingering on her wet lips. He whispers back to her, ]

Nariko...

[ He- ] Hey... tell me some other time. Some other time you wanted me.

[Yamato has been spectacular since the day she laid eyes on him, there's never been any question about that. But she does know that he needs to grow into it, in a sense, not just because of his age but also because he has the same uncertain chord in him that she's only just barely gotten over. Since she's with him maybe he'll have a much better chance of becoming all those things so much quicker than herself.

She tries to sneak in another kiss, but then he presents her with that question. ... If not for his scent she might have attempted a lie, tried to tell him that there wasn't another time.]

When you were still playing with Fred, the match right before you were all let out of school that year, you placed first after all that hard work. [She can remember it very clearly in her head but it's a little more difficult to put to words, memories are complicated that way.] I wanted to go down there and kiss you in front of everyone, fuck you on the court. You were so cool. [Even though he'd been quite young at the time - maybe thirteen or fourteen?]

[ That would be the dream, right? If he could conquer himself and become that much stronger for it. He seems to only barely hear her over the water, but with the world zeroed in on her... Well. The young man's eyes widen that much more and ... That time, huh? That just makes him feel cool, powerful.

Particularly given that she thought he was cool then, that she wanted to do that. Wanted to kiss him in front of everyone, fuck him on the court. He - ]

That was so awesome, when we pulled that off!

[ But... ] I'd have loved if you did that. Fred would have been... jealous.

Unfortunately I wouldn't have gotten away with it. [He wasn't legal then for one thing, and she couldn't imagine that his father would be too pleased with the event itself, even if it could have been fun from a certain perspective.] That's the only reason it didn't happen. Nothing else really measured up, though.

[And by that she means how thoroughly she attempted to reward Yamato and Alfred, because it had to be both or else it might look a little strange, like too much. But Nariko had insisted on celebrating in some form or another, brimming with pride. In fact, there were a few occasions like that, they could easily be deemed motherly but the truth of it was that she'd wanted him in little, unconscious ways over the years.

So really any event that saw her as especially, manically happy was probably some repressed form of sexual desire.]

[ But he was an adult now, fully legal. And she was a woman, and she was in his pack. She was his mate. Having basically forgotten or worked his mind up into denial about her other (former?) mate and therefore his father, the young man inhales deep from her scent and the sounds of water around them. Nothing else measured up, huh.... ]

Hey, no, that day was awesome. [ Him and Fred had been so happy, so proud of himself. They had both roared up into the sky and collapsed into a sleep state in the car. And the partied that much harder at dinner. He shakes his head. ]

But... [ He inhales ] ... You'd get away with it now. [ . . . ] So if -- no, I... I mean. When. When I win another tournament. We'll do it then.

[Alright, she can't help being a little grateful to hear that because while he and Fred, in their gentle ignorance, had lots of fun she'd always kind of worried about it not being enough. It's an old fear assuaged, basically. She's always supported Yamato and his tennis for the sole fact that it seemed to resonate with him, it wasn't something she had helicopter mom'd him into in the least - she wanted to support him in it. So hearing when at the end there? It makes her happy in a way that sex can't hope to influence or produce.]

Yes, and then you can really make Fred jealous. [Even on her best day Charlotte might not be willing to fuck in front of so many people at once.] In part because he'll have to sit back and watch. [If they were still parters it could have been easy to justify!

Also fostering his weirdly, inherent male friendship with that kid shouldn't excite her so much.]

[ Fred only mated with his mother on Christmas and Charlotte only told Masaomi earlier today. Yamato... is almost out of the loop, him and Fred hadn't really talked in the last several days, and the only real correspondence (if you can call it that) is seeing what the other boy had put up or reblogged on his Tumblr. Which was a little weird, but he didn't think much of it.

This whole conversation, thusly, will get much more ironic once Yamato learns that fact ] C-c'mon, you want to mess with him that much, huh?

[ But his tone betrays him, maybe he wanted to as well ]

[Nariko hasn't heard about it either, so rather than a sense of irony she might feel really bad about making some other woman's mate jealous in any sort of way - especially since Charlotte herself tends to cling so violently to anything that makes her happy.

.... You know, maybe Nariko was really being way too hard on her about Masaomi. She'll have to apologize in a big way later on.]

Hm, but isn't that the kind of friendship you guys have? Not quite rivals, but you try to outdo each other while being supportive from afar?

[After all, they'd never seemed to leave one another's lives entirely, as many people did during the fucked up high school years. They still spoke, seemed to hang out, and Yamato couldn't hope to convince her that he didn't want to mess with his friend.] Besides, what sort of mom would I be if I didn't embarrasses Junko around one of her crushes? I haven't done it yet.

[ ... ] Okay seriously, seriously, did everyone but me know she was hot for Fred?

[ This is such a serious topic that whatever other response he might've had is pushed aside, to sound more than a little bit indignant. But yeah, him and Fred still were friends. He's not sure it's quite like that, but they did tend to compete, at least! ... Ish. ]

Fred probably doesn't know?

[That might not be too much of a comfort, ultimately, but it's still true!]

Koji definitely knew. He hopes Veronica didn't know, she's new! ]

No, he totally didn't. If he did, we'd've talked about it.

[ He sounds every bit a teenager in this moment, even as he's embracing her in the shower ]

Well, you can probably tell him and save her the trouble.

[But, frankly, if that kid hasn't figured it out or even thought of it enough to act on it in all these years then maybe it's not worth pursuing. She kisses him, though, and laughs.]

[ It's a stupid thing to say, but the game has changed now. He didn't want to offend Nariko, after all ]

[Ahh, well. It's a sign of progress that she gets over it a lot quicker, right? And she's glad to have the best version of herself to give to him, if nothing else.]

[ He considers her for a long moment. He wants to say something like it is her place, as his mate. As his girlfriend. But at the same time... he was supposed to be in control. Yamato inhales and exhales before he focuses his yes keenly on her and then says, quite sincerely - ]

I like having Junko. I don't think she's mine completely, not like you are, but I'm going to keep having her.

[ Now, if that means that it excludes her from Fred or not? that he's not sure about. But he figures if he says it directly and sincerely to her - he needed Junko, for his new pack he hoped to get her into - it would make it less offensive to her. ]

There's nothing wrong with that.

[There's really nothing to be offended by! History proves that she's emotional and overreactive but the last three weeks have somewhat forced her out of that. And on top of that Yamato ends up framing it perfectly.]
