[Futurelandia] An Eventful Valentines and beyond (happy new year)

[ Nathan moved into tow and that was awkward, Yamato and Nariko probably have some sort of a relationship and that's awkward, Yamato's been trying to make new friends so that's interesting, and Masaomi and Nariko are hopefully solid as anything after that trip, Nathan and Yamato complications aside. There's a new pack member that Masaomi met at a party and Nariko met in class. It's been over a month since the new year began and the old one concluded.

A lot's changed and yet not a lot had at all.

And frankly, things were probably just going to change that much more in the coming days and weeks. ~~this might be edited to something more poetic later once we conclude more stuff about that other log~~ ]

[And her smile only widens.]

So you love everyone, then.

[... How very like a child of Nariko's. But in the meantime she tries to lay out a bit, relax on her own arms. Sorry Yamato, she needs a little bit of a break!]

[ With sincerity: ] I do.

[ And he tries to push her ass down so she can lay on the grass evenly now. He shifts to be on his tush next to her, sitting cross-legged. If she needs to relax and recover, he'll accept that for now ]

Mm.

[Since he's kind enough to let her down she enjoys it to the fullest, turning her head in a little as if she might honestly take a nap out in the middle of the woods.] If it came from anyone else, I wouldn't believe it.

[Masaomi would probably just be challenging himself, Nariko would just be attempting to recreate a feeling. But somehow with Yamato it's just right, and he's young enough that she can believe he means well, that it's not born out of selfishness or loneliness.]

Well that's because you're meant to be with me.

[ He managed to say that evenly to her, looking deep into her eyes... before his lips quirked, and he both laughed and blushed furiously, getting embarrassed at himself as he looked down at her. Still, he wouldn't look away, because... because well, that'd be shameful. He did mean it, of course, at least the idea that he loves everyone. But... ]

A-at least that's... the sort of thing I should say. Or something.

[ Junko had been coaching him. Nariko had been building his confidence. He wasn't sure where he stood, evenly. ]

But I know I'm picturing you there in that vision I have.

[That's ... It's not okay. Even if he only means that she's meant to be under him, that he's meant to be her Alpha, the wording is a little too romantic, it's too close. She honestly believes that he means it as platonically as one could when speaking about these relationships, which is why she smiles, but doesn't say much to that.

The only one she's meant to be with is Alfred, and that won't change because of an Alpha.]

I don't think I've ever met someone so determined to plan it ahead that thoroughly. [If she were still as frustrated and easily wound up as she was last year, she might take offense to being likened to a piece of a puzzle.]

Bad habit... I've always gotten caught up in my head.

[ Still... ]

But I think it'll be for the best, as long as you and everyone else trusts me.

[ He's somehow confident in that, even if he isn't, necessarily, in himself. He's confident that with all their support - even if very few are collected so far to make a big "we" - he can make that come true and it'll be great for all of them. ]

Mm.

[She has to physically refrain from saying 'exactly like your mother', because that would be awful to say to someone who is trying to stand on their own feet. Charlotte understands the weight of moving out of a parents shadow more than anyone else.]

Just try to avoid overwhelming yourself. You might worry me.

Well, I can do some ... uh. you know, delegation.

[ That was the word. That was the word and it took him too long to think of it so he made a bit of an ass of himself, but it's okay. His cheeks flush a little at it, embarrassment highlighted even through this afterglow. But it's true! He's pretty sure he'll be able to count on various people he's collecting now in various ways. ]

[Charlotte finally moves onto her back, closing her eyes.]

I'm glad you types have the mind for such things, some of us would go crazy if they had to think that hard about it, you know.

[But that's exactly why Charlotte isn't an Alpha, she'd never been destined for it, never wanted for the power that came with the title. Her own inability to think of people outside of those she considered immediate family was a good test for other Alphas, though. It was a job that demanded you look after others, that you be selfless. Yamato pretty much already fit the bill.]

I'm sure you're right, though.

[ Here they are then, laying down on the grass, and he rolls over bit so as to be on his back, but with those bodies touching, a more blatantly... romantic wasn't the right word, right? But it was a more intimate pose. He smiles at her praise there, chuckling to himself in a knowing or at least self-satisfied way. It's... something he's been trying to internalize. He considers talking about Junko, or her suggestions, her evangelizing. Or her considers suggesting that she, as his manager, would be one of those people if she takes this seriously.

and he does expect or at least hope she will. And he... ]

I think I might go crazy if I don't think about it. [ ... ] My mind's just full of that need and of Nariko.

[ And to some extent that's related. But still... ]

[When he joins her a bit more properly she sidles over a bit to rest her head on his chest without an ounce of reservation. It is a little more intimate and romantic than they should be, but they've passed nearly every barrier that Charlotte has set up. One more won't exactly break her back. She laughs a bit when he mentions what his current brain chemistry us made up of.]

Aren't you worried about it?

[He needs a woman that's apparently needed by a good few people. Logically speaking, Charlotte knows it's chemistry, but it's also the simple fact that both Masaomi and Nariko are magnetic, confident people. It's easy to fall in love with them and want parts of them. So was Yamato really happy with how things were?]

[ Worried... Is he worried? Some part of him, some deep part of him which knows that things might not go as splendidly as he envisions has him worried, but he's not sure if he can or should admit those to anyone else right now. He considers a dodge, asking her what she means by that. But he doesn't allow himself that out, stroking her head as tey lay there, he himself looking up at the sky. Was he worried... ]

Nariko's an amazing woman. I-- [ Inhale ] I'm having a lot of fun with it so far.

[ That's probably the best way to put it ]

What a decidedly political answer.

[It's not as if she really faults him for refusing to answer it in a direct way, though it'll be a little troublesome if he expects everyone to trust him and feel confident in his presence if he doesn't give anything back in the way of honesty. Or maybe that'll just be a problem with Charlotte.]

Well, you're well suited to one another, you'll be alright.

[Yamato himself as well as the two of them as a unit.]

[ Political??? He blinks at that and... then he looks a little bit embarrassed to be called out like that. He didn't like to be called out like that, it made him feel like he was being cagey and that wasn't his intention. But at the same time... he didn't know how to answer that. Or at least he didn't know how to answer it while defending his heart.

And so... ]

Sorry. I didn't - mean to?

[She looks up at him, genuinely confused.]

You didn't do anything wrong? It makes sense to be that way when it concerns your own mate, right?

[She'd have probably done the exact same if he asked about Fred, specifically, and she was idly aware that it was probably a very sudden thing to ask him, too. The details of a mateship were incredibly private, as far as Charlotte was concerned but she'd asked in the moment because she lacked a filter, and because she was a little curious.]

No but like... [ A beat ] Politicians suck.

[ At least the big establishment guys but that's getting too specific for pillow talk. He can keep his political leanings and frustrations with the system in place to himself. After all, even a little bit of it back on Thanksgiving made things unnecessarily awkward with Audrey.

... And he was making it awkward now too. So he awkwardly laughs and smiles for her, kissing her forehead ]

I love my mate, and I want her to be a part of everything I do.

[ But he also has doubts she'll be able... ] I-- I mean, Fred makes it sound like it's that way for you too.

[Yamato gleaned some other meaning from her words and because Charlotte is far more concerned with pack politics than governmental ones she totally doesn't get it. But she does idly note to herself that his response in and of itself was still a valid response but also skirted the general point of what she'd said.]

That's how it is with us. [She'd thought. But this might warrant a serious discussion later on, when she tried to recall her mate in the moment she and Yamato had left the cabin. Hm.]

Good. I mean. I'm glad.

[ . . . Whatever. Let's just brush her head again, kiss her again, and pretend he didn't put his foot in his mouth. He wonders if the mood is still good. He decides to test it a little, being a bit coy for her. Or well, coy by his standards. ]

So what's my name, Charlotte?

[ It was a test! To see if that "punishment" worked! She wasn't allowed to call him Yamato, only Master. ]

[As far as Charlotte is concerned everything is perfectly fine, so when he says that she can smile immediately, and reply:]

Master.

[No shame, no hesitation, total comfort with the new 'name' that he's bestowed upon himself.]

[ Man that feels good. Feels... right. And they will eventually need to stand, to go back in and join their mates. They might even do it sooner than later, within the next five minutes. But right now, he shivers at that, and whispers back to her, holding her close to him and her head into his chest ]

Good, you learned your lesson.
