[A lot of incredibly weird things have managed to happen, but that shouldn't be a surprise by now: They're an incredibly weird pack, after all. While Nariko and Ada's fighting has become far more subtle, certain kids have become more serious about school and relationships, other kids are moping over the exit of their mates - a family reunion has ended. It's time to get back into the usual swing of things before it all goes to shit.

Emily's gonna get knocked up.

Finals are going to happen.

Audrey will probably make a decision about a thing or two.

Veronica is lil' fat by now, but she wears it well.

They are in the grip of Spring-Almost-Wanting-Summer, and that's perfect for all sorts of ~crazy shenanigans.]

[There's an undeniable huff in her tone, a vague anger that she's really coming to know well but can't hope to vocalize right now.]

After all, aren't there lots of dicks and cunts and all that stupid bullshit? There's Audrey and Junko [It almost feels bad to add her name there. Junko is ... Not Veronica's favorite person because it seems like no one will ever be as important to Koji, and it grinds at her the wrong way, but Junko is also incredibly smart and kind - and she has a mate that she's in love with.] and Emily. Clearly all of those can be 'better', too.

[She kind of squints at him as if that might properly convey her irritation. Mostly it just makes her otherwise pretty face look really weird.]

He's not sure, now, if this is part of their game or not, it's like she's side stepping it entirely. He meets her gaze impassively for a long moment, trying t project judging annoyance right back at her even as he feels his heart curling up into a strange loop like it always does around her. He was trying to keep things normal with her, fearing that not being himself, being to sweet would make him boring or frustrate her. But then he often felt like indulging too much made him seem feckless. And maybe... maybe he was?

This was so scary, her being this pregnant, confronted with the reality. That said, he tilted his head to the side after a long moment and, ]

[ He'll try complimenting her. ]

[It is, technically, the right thing to do here. It just doesn't look like it immediately because her eyes well up a little with tears and then (maybe somewhat impressively) they're practically sucked back. It's irritating that he's being genuine, that she is the one failing to catch the back and forth because it's stupid and tiring and she is so fat can't he just admit he's her mate and all of that.]

Koji ...

[She wants to ask him to come over but instead she just gets up - a little carefully, she really feels like a balloon after all - and just kisses him herself. That's easier.

And it's also not an apology. Sort of.]

[ Hey, hey, hey. No one said that you were sure that they were mates, Veronica. That was meant to be some secret locked in their hearts that neither of us were aware of. But no, he had an awareness of his own feelings, even if he didn't know how to best express them or, indeed, if they should be expressed. The young man is surprised to see her stand, and pushes off the wall and takes a half step forward to catch her or steady her before she makes her way over to him.

He fails off course, and is almost caught off guard by the kiss, his hands wrapped gently around hr waist before he stops himself, remembering that he should be more angry, both for their teasing and, well, because he was.

But anger just felt secondary to the desire to be close to her the moment her stupid round belly got up. ]

[It seemed an incredibly obvious thing in the moment which set her off, which was somewhere around this morning and it feels true in the way that all things are generally true until they are proven otherwise. That's only logical, that's the way of the world as Veronica understands it, after all, which is probably why her sudden need for affirmation is alarming even to herself. She survived by only questioning just enough, but not too much.

The kiss is a perfect distraction, and so is his body, which she basically prefers to everything else in the world right now.]

I'm glad I'm having your kid and all but I want to be skinny again.

[That was her apology.]

[ . . . Should he? Should he tease her, or be affectionate back? Was it possible to do both with hr moods as wildly moving as they have been lately? He's been second-guessing himself so much lately and it's been driving him nuts. Nothing he's expressed to her directly, of course, but a desire for simplicity is often a strong reason to find solace in torturing Audrey or bending over Emily now that he's realized he can actually pull that off.

[ That was breathed out, because he knows he's inconsiderate, not necessarily compassionate, and generally just difficult. He knows his heart is a mess, where he can't decide how to be nice, or even if he should express it. He's sick of feeling vulnerable, and... And.

And that was a gross response. He's pulled to the bed easily, leaning his lip along with the pull ]

[She gets back onto the mattress and makes sure to pull him on or beside her - dealer's choice there because her stomach is a weird road block and she doesn't want him to be uncomfortable. But when they're marginally settled:]

The whole organized punishment thing was more his dad's thing. The whole meticulous nonsense was his elder brother's.
