[Midlandia] Just One Note

[A series of events occurred which were incredibly important and ultimately life changing.

But frankly her attention span was always rather limited. What really mattered above all else was that she and Nathan were free, and it didn't require Vergil's scolding or leaving the country. They had been adopted into this pack with considerably minimal fuss. They had a roof, food, and a way to get to and from school. The best part was that there was no one to hit her anymore, no more getting thrown left and right into walls or furniture, and Nathan no longer had to hear all the yelling and insults. They could be living in a high class sewer and Nariko would still be happy.

And while she'd made her gratuity very clear to the Alpha she's been otherwise quite normal! Nariko had survived the state of things because she knew how to control herself, how to present properly. So ever since they'd been given their space she'd gone about meeting everyone she could, being both agreeable and fun, while Nathan clung to her side the whole time.

Lately, though, he's been feeling a little more like himself. On this particular day she's sprawled all over the couch while Nathan watches some movie directly in front of her. They're still young - hell, you are too, even if your body and your experiences are different - but they've been loved this whole time, they probably take it for granted. [It'd be patronizing for him to act as if he could comprehend it entirely, it's enough to know that some portion of it is understood, even if their methods of communicating are a little choppy. Maybe that'll iron itself out with the whole 'proving it' deal.]

[ Basara, for his part, hugs her back. He's not really necessarily the most sentimental or even the warmest of huggers, but she seems to want this, or need this, and so he does. Besides, he should get to know his new "sister" better than he currently dos, particularly if he's going to be arrogant and say he was concerned about her. Sure it was true, but it's not like he shouldn't try to prove that too.

His beard brushes her a little. ]

Even if all of the younger people end up leaving to make their own way, it's still a family - it's like when children move away from their parents, it just might be a little later. Yori-san is never going to let go of what she has entirely, people will still stay in touch - but a pack's Alpha is its heart, and I don't think Yori wants to hand this off to a successor. She sees a lot in every one of us, and she wants us to find somewhere which can let everyone grow into who they want to be later on.

Doesn't mean it'll be tomorrow or anything but... I also get that. I'm feeling a little boxed in by it, even if I'm proud.

[The fact of the matter here is that he's talking about a lot of stuff that's completely over her head. Nariko possesses a resilience and emotional durability that far outpaces her age, but she's still a little dense about her feelings, and she's not above being rather childish when she isn't being A Parent (tm). What that really means is that she has to actively think, and while she does that she seems to hold his cheek with one hand, and then both.
