[Futurelandia] The Wonderful Christmas (and maybe into New Years stuff too)
[ Their pack's Christmas tended to be one which was full and chaotic, despite the fact that there were increasingly less children in the house as Yamato and Junko (and yes, Koji too) all grew to maturity. In some ways, this was actually more "kids" than had been in the house for it than in a long time, what with their new additions.
Still: Masaomi, Nariko, Ada, Sullivan, Emily, Octavio, Tom, Yamato, Junko, Koji, Veronica, and Audrey - Twelve people with at least one gift for everyone else, often times more in the case of those who were more generous or had deeper pockets or more to impress others with. The sheer number (even if it had grown over time) is probably what prompted them to set up a grate tree in one of the living room spaces which was probably meant to be a formal dining room and then lay out all the presents from everyone wrapped up under it andt hen sprawled out for a wide area around it all. There's chairs set up in a circle around the room to give everyone room to sit and the first one there (Which if, of course, Masaomi) brought bags for the wrapping paper to go into a recycle.
Also Masaomi has on a santa hat and a fake beard. Both of which Ada picked out years ago, and he wears mostly out of tradition. It's similarly out of tradition that he got up at the ass crack of dawn to sit in the room and eat some rice before anyone else got up, wait for them all to filter on in here usually starting with Ada or Sullivan or in recent years his eldest son so people can start to make breakfast and be ready. But either way, breakfast and present opening in the morning! A white elephant gift exchange game in the afternoon! A big dinner in the evening!
Christmas is a time of togetherness, where there has to be some structure, but there's a lot which can happen beyond all that and often did. Movies watched, songs sung, and even if this year of different and strange for a variety of reasons... well. It was still their day, and everyone would enjoy it. ]

[ He hums. And he tries to change the topic, even if he does reach over for the phone again, his cheeks coloring a little. Was he that transparent? He hoped not ]
You know, you should titfuck me sometime.
no subject
They're so damn weird, but at least it makes his topic change logical.]
I should.
[The look in her eyes very clearly says that if he wants it right now he's going to have to come and take it on his own.]
no subject
[ Man now he's distracted himself though, how do you send a voicemail without the call just blaring for someone? He didn't want to fuck up her date because that wouldn't be fair... after all, Nariko never responded to his first text. So...
He would have probably just come and taken it if it wasn't for the fact he'd sort of cum like 6 times in the last few hours anyway ]
Amazing you haven't. [ He hums ] Second biggest so far, right? Nariko, then you, Audrey, Ada, Veronica, and then Junko?
[ He might have been overstating Ada and/or Audrey ]
I only have the brain for one tonight
[So it went Nariko, Emily, Veronica, Audrey+Junko, then Ada.
If he hadn't insisted on changing the topic so immediately she would have told him it was nice that he wanted to talk to her even now. But now it feels wrong to bring up, and there's a little irony in that.
But Masaomi you send a voicemail by knowing that your mate's phone is probably on silent and you'll probably have to leave a message anyway.]
Awwww it's good to get one though
[ Really? He's mildly surprised by that. Maybe he was just followed by the moment back then. Plus Audrey's were bigger than Junko's he was pretty sure...? Maybe it had just been too long since he was with Junko like that. All the same, he hums a little, spinning his phone in his hand. Should he text her...
He opens the phone again, and he scrolls down to Nariko's number, looking at it and the time. Mrr.
He's going to call, and he'll apologize if she answers. That'll work, right? He's been trying to apologize more anyway and he's drunk ]

[Junko used to be the smallest but she's ballooned beyond Ada's generous double Cs, which never really looked like that at all, considering the type of bra she wore. Audrey's were still bigger, but not by such a wide margin anymore and, besides, Audrey was fit but she was naturally bigger and taller than Junko, too.
Anyway! Emily closes her eyes, listens to him moving on his phone. ... She wants Martin all of the sudden, it's very odd.
But while the phone on the other end is going to ring it won't be answered. There's just Nariko's voice at the end, asking to leave a message and keep texting her if it's an emergency!]
no subject
[ Was Jello Girl at all stacked? But before he can finish the sentence or the thought, he hears Nariko's message prompter. The Alpha leans back on the bed, resting his head against the wall and cuts himself off in favor of leaving a message for his mate. So- ]
Hey babe. [ There, good start ] It's just near midnight and I'm thinking of you. Looking forward to seeing you next year! [ Get it? ] So I hope your date's gone well, or I might need to smack that boy upside the head. [ Not that he would ] Love you.
[ ... And that's good enough, he concludes. He nods, and he hangs up ]
no subject
Man, it's almost weird to hear you sound so normal.
[Maybe she wasn't supposed to say that, not about her Alpha, who seemed about as concerned with coming off a certain way for a specific reason as his daughter often did but, man, Emily's just now coming down from being high as shit. So sue her if she speaks her mind instead of working in circles! Circles are exhausting.
Also Jello Girl's boobs are okay. She's definitely at least as big as Junko so they're still in the realm of 'awfully well stacked ladies'.]
no subject
[ He shoots that back with an eyebrow arch as he sets the phone down, feeling that much more comfortable. It felt right to do that. Even if she probably won't even hear it before she sees him picking her up to go to the Temple. Speaking of... no more drinks tonight, he needs to be sober enough to drive in a few hours, or at least to pose for that. In fact, he might need to get something for bring hung over there.
But yes, he did spend a lot of time putting out an image. It felt important to him, particularly to his packmates. Being an Alpha was being a leader, playing a key part of their lives. Why shouldn't he try to be larger than life? ]
no subject
[Is he picking her up or is Nariko meeting him there? Hopefully they'll work out the details but, really, once she hears that message Nariko is probably going to call him - and frankly she won't spare even half the consideration that he did for her.]
Think you can lie down now?
[Or does he want to blaze another trail through the house?]
no subject
Either way... ]
Unless it was a badge of honor. [ He did make a gang back in the day, after all. But lie down... ]
Well, I don't want to leave two ladies up here alone.
[ He was a little tired himself, but it also felt lame to nap for an hour before midnight actually hit. He was sitting on the bed and she was lying on it... she didn't even like cuddling, did she? He rolls his eyes either way though, and lays down next to her ]
no subject
But it might not seem that way since, when he settled beside her, the most she did was take his hand very loosely.]
Can I ask you something incredibly cliche?
[Because that was always a good start. But her voice has shifted, she's not really speaking as the woman he was fucking like a whore, he said he'd be there for her and now she has to ask him a question as her alpha - but as a man, too.]
no subject
[ Honestly, he's surprised that she loosely took his hand. And it's perhaps because of that he doesn't squeeze it back or tighten the grip or anything. He just looks up at the ceiling for a moment before glancing back over at her. ... Also was Jello Girl okay, he hopes she isn't getting her neck messed up now from her position ]
no subject
[If you're going to be big, Masaomi, you know how to say no to shit. But as if to prove something to him Jello Girl kind of groans and her hips twist which ... Doesn't make her position appear anymore comforting, but it's proof that she's not dead. If she has to deal with some neck pain later it still won't compare to what she'll have to deal with between her legs.]
When did you know you couldn't live without her?
[When do you have the moment that tells you that the person you're with is different from everyone else that you can have?]
no subject
It's a difficult question, for a variety of reasons. They had sort of rushed into everything, bypassing each other's courtship in such a way that they had a pack and a house before they had even discussed basic structural things in their lives. This last year had shown that, little arguments as they ironed out who they were outside of the fairy tale they set up. It wasn't bad though. ]
True. [ But ... ] The rational answer should be something like when I bought the house, but in retrospect, I'm not actually sure it is. No, I think it was more... [ That he couldn't live without her- ]
It's around the time she got pregnant with Junko, but it's not so much that pregnancy as when [ And now it was much more his turn to be cliche ] I brushed her bangs back one of those few mornings I got up before her.
no subject
Thanks.
[He answered her question, after all.]
When I asked you about the kids, it wasn't because I thought you actually regretted them. It's more that I'm always very afraid of being chained down, I wondered if you were the same. [Having kids, being in love with people rather than just having sex, getting involved in the intricacies of lives and shit? All of that created bonds, and she was always so hesitant about it.
Which made her romantic relationship pretty damn interesting.]
no subject
[ ... ]
It's not fair to pin it all on her, but a lot of it started with Ada questioning my parenting. [ He man exhales. He;s rambling a little here, revealing a lot more than he needs to in this moment. It's probably because he's starting to feel lonely, and that loneliness is offset by this intimacy with Emily. He shakes his head, speaking softly ]
She was right, of course. Nariko was offended I'd think that. [ In retrospect, Ada was biased in her assessment of Nariko and he's relationship, but... ] I'm not sure I appreciated the kids as kids until Koji was two. I'm not sure I helped out in any big way until Junko was seven. But chained down... [ He hums ] No, not as such. Never that, for me. But seeing a child as chains is making them a prop, and I don't think I fully realized the extent to which I'd had that prop-design in mind until this last year.
[ In is case, it had been trophies, badges of honor. It had been hopes for a more interesting future, and all of those children were adults before he stopped to think about it all. In a large way, he regrets that now, far more than he could ever regret having them. ]
no subject
Believe me, I'm very aware of how offended she was. [Because Masaomi was right. Ada had ulterior motives that outweighed whatever good she'd been trying to do, she was just close enough to get under Masaomi's skin, after all.]
Hopefully I can learn from you, then. I don't think they're props, but I do think that when you have them you run the risk of severely fucking up your kids for life or doing right by them. It's like there's no middle ground. [And it scares her to death, it makes her want to run off. Emily's compromise had been the idea of having a kid, but letting someone else raise it, trying to learn and get over what her parents had ultimately done to her.]
I don't know if it counts for anything, but I don't think you've really been all that bad. I mean, my dad just refused to even look at me. At least you talk to your kids and know they exist.
no subject
Was that naive, or was it confidence? ]
I'd have never thought of that. [ He hums ] I never knew my mother. Or well, which one was my mother. The pack I grew up in, I was connected through my father more than her, and the mothers we had were obscured some.
[ At least you talk to your kids, huh... ]
no subject
[But, then, apparently their own pack was going to shift into the same kind of behavior, so maybe she shouldn't answer him as if it was some far off concept. It was for Emily, personally, because her birth pack hadn't operated like that at all, but still.]
My point is when people think of bad parents they go right for physical abuse or neglect, and those things are appropriately shitty, of course. [She waved her free hand in the air a little.] But there's something to be said for parents who won't claim you or make it very clear they're only putting up with you until you're legal.
[She closed her eyes.] You haven't been perfect, dude, but I think it's kind of weird to expect someone to be a parent when you don't have an example of two working parents to draw from. Kind of seems like neither of you have that.
[They were basically two idiots flailing at being adults to their children.]
no subject
[ It's why he's opening up with this sort of stuff in the first place. He bites his lip, and then looks off to the side. Should he call Junko again? Or Koji? No, they were going to be fine, they were probably hanging out together. What was everyone else doing again? He didn't know Ada's plans... oh wait, he did. Her and Octavio were together, right? No, Octavio was with Audrey and Sully. Which meant Ada was going to be...
Somewhere.
Veronica was probably with her or Koji, right? Right, that makes sense. Tom was of course going to be with his friend. ]
You still going to rip Martin's balls off?
[ that's what she said at first. earlier tonight. He's totally not changing the subject ]
no subject
[HIs drunkness. Because, come to think of it, when does he ever talk about his feelings? Basically never. But! Ada lied and said she was going out with work friends but, really, she preferred to stay at home by herself. Audrey was with Sullivan, and Veronica with Koji!]
Probably not. We'll see how I feel after I tell him about this party.
[She'd mostly just been upset that he ditched her, but that's become the least meaningful thing of the whole night.]
On a scale of one to ten how lame are we going to be if we fall asleep before midnight?
[Since he was 'not' changing the subject and all.]
no subject
[ He'd prefer four-ish, but she would never tolerate that. ... Actually, speaking of ]
... Waaaait. You drove here, didn't you?
[ . . . Well he can uber home. You can uber at like four AM right?
That said, he nodded a little at the not ripping Martin's balls off. ... Where was Junko tonight? She hadn't told him shit. She probably told Nariko . ]
no subject
[Forget about being lame, he can't stay up for the next six hours minimum! His day is going to be hell at this rate if he doesn't get some amount of rest, even if it's going to promise a wicked hangover when he gets up.]
I did, but Martin's place is, like, maybe five minutes away from here. He can come get me. [Because she won't be in a state to be driving in the morning either. Weed takes a while to make its way out of her, so even though she'd brought her car she hadn't exactly planned on going home. If anything, Masaomi was free to use it if he could manage to sober up.
Also Junko literally just went and did as she pleased no one really asked her what she was doing except for Audrey and probably Yamato. So no one knows where she is - but her phone is near, so it's all good!]
no subject
But all the same... ]
What, you don't want to kiss me at midnight? [ A beat ] Or you could go snog Martin, if he's that close.
