[Futurelandia] The Wonderful Christmas (and maybe into New Years stuff too)

[ Their pack's Christmas tended to be one which was full and chaotic, despite the fact that there were increasingly less children in the house as Yamato and Junko (and yes, Koji too) all grew to maturity. In some ways, this was actually more "kids" than had been in the house for it than in a long time, what with their new additions.

Still: Masaomi, Nariko, Ada, Sullivan, Emily, Octavio, Tom, Yamato, Junko, Koji, Veronica, and Audrey - Twelve people with at least one gift for everyone else, often times more in the case of those who were more generous or had deeper pockets or more to impress others with. The sheer number (even if it had grown over time) is probably what prompted them to set up a grate tree in one of the living room spaces which was probably meant to be a formal dining room and then lay out all the presents from everyone wrapped up under it andt hen sprawled out for a wide area around it all. There's chairs set up in a circle around the room to give everyone room to sit and the first one there (Which if, of course, Masaomi) brought bags for the wrapping paper to go into a recycle.

Also Masaomi has on a santa hat and a fake beard. Both of which Ada picked out years ago, and he wears mostly out of tradition. It's similarly out of tradition that he got up at the ass crack of dawn to sit in the room and eat some rice before anyone else got up, wait for them all to filter on in here usually starting with Ada or Sullivan or in recent years his eldest son so people can start to make breakfast and be ready. But either way, breakfast and present opening in the morning! A white elephant gift exchange game in the afternoon! A big dinner in the evening!

Christmas is a time of togetherness, where there has to be some structure, but there's a lot which can happen beyond all that and often did. Movies watched, songs sung, and even if this year of different and strange for a variety of reasons... well. It was still their day, and everyone would enjoy it. ]

[Junko, Veronica, and even Ada all barrel through the first and supposedly most important meal of the day as if their lives depend on it. Junko herself kind of hurriedly stumbles to get to the presents.]

Okay, everyone sit down!! [She's decided to hand out gifts this year, apparently! A job that Yamato had been tasked with the year before. Maybe she's excited for it because of how well their parents had been getting along since they came back or, more than likely, it's the pure volume of stuff that means someone has to do the legwork, but to look at all the paper and brows and stickers with different names on them does excite her.

Junko, who looks even tinier in her traditional reindeer pajamas - and therefore entirely unattractive but it's Christmas so there you go - piles up as many gifts in her arms as she can to deliver them to the recipient! Her first armload goes to Yamato.] Wait, though! Everyone has to have some before we start opening!

[She's bossing everyone like she used to, so her sibling day must have repaired some deep set part of her - it doesn't take long for everyone to get a pile, though Junko has to have some help with Audrey's bike, which has been hidden in a gigantic box. Her own pile goes untouched because she won't get this done quickly even with help, but it doesn't seem to bother her much. Nariko, similarly, neatly arranges her own gifts but doesn't tear into them with the same exuberance as Audrey or the overtly curious Veronica.]

[ Sullivan, pretty much as he always does, stacks his gifts (most of which are in small boxes or card forms) a little as to line up their corners. He manages to balance them like this, and tries to make them look nice.

Masaomi sort of weighs and shakes the things he's handed off, and he's also the one that stands to help out his daughter with getting the big box to Audrey. Neither of the two older men go to opening them immediately.

Nor does Tom, but he does ... smell them. He got a really mean gift one year from Octavio and he didn't want a repeat of it, sue him. Octavio snickers at Tom doing that, but he himself just sort of balances his own and he's one of the people making ready to open his immediately!

Koji also goes for it immediately. Because why wouldn't he. But he was sitting next to Veronica on one side and Emily on the other, because apparently he's just feeling like that. (Though Veronica and him are in a loveseat)

And Yamato -- Oh, he's got... big. Stack here? He didn't gel up his hair, but he looks around to see if any of the labels say who they are from? ]

Yeah, listen to the boss.

[Nariko has to stop Masaomi from shaking one of his gifts, pointedly taking it away from him before he probably ends up breaking it, but otherwise Veronica keeps feeling up her gits while Audrey stares at the huge box.] What the fuck could this even be?

[Junko hands her another and shrugs.] Now that everyone has most of their gifts I guess you can find out! [It takes all of Junko's will to keep from busting out in a huge grin. From Koji's side Veronica pipes up, rather hopeful:]

Oh, we can do it, now?

[And from Nariko:] I think we're all set.

[And with that she absolutely rips into her presents with just as much fervor as her ~~mate~~ lover. Junko at least has the decency to stare with mild amazement. Anyway.]

Yamato, open this one first!

[What Junko hands him ends up being a complete car cleaning kit, it's got everything from a high quality wax to actual polish in it. Yamato's other gifts include a new laptop, an extra racket, and, interestingly enough, a little box with the local of their local, reliable mechanic's place. The pamphlet explains how to use his new remote start, wifi included. She'd lied and told him she needed to borrow his car for the day when her own had been in for service.

From Junko he got the cleaning kit, new rims (tasteful, they're very 'Yamato'), new shoes to practice in, expensive headphones, and a new digital camera that was also capable of recording. Veronica got him extra tennis balls, some shirts that would fit him rather well. Ada got him some movies, including some which he'd gone to see with her on lazy dates, socks (because she's practical, hush), and little things for his car.

Seriously he got a lot this year.]

[ Koji and Veronica (or at least Koji) don't actually commentate much between gifts, just voraciously open them to commentate when they finish the initial stack and can view it in totality. Hopefully someone is paying attention to who got him which one, he isn't and never does, so he has to ask at the end.

As for Yamato- Holy shit he got a lot though. Yamato does take Junko's suggestion to open up the cleaning kit, but as he opens one thing and then the next thing, the next thing after that- ]

Holy shit, Junko, did you get me all of these or did I miss a card?

[ He feels bad now! He just got her that necklace and a copy of that new biography of that cancer researcher he knows she likes but he's already forgotten the name of! (he does give Ada a smile and... he tries to pull off a wink for her at the DVDs)

Veronica was the one who got him the balls, the remote start was Nariko, and his dad got him a ... key? He actually holds the key up and examines it when he takes it out, not even sure what it's for. He was going to ask his dad what but -

But Masaomi is already holding his hands together and bouncing in his seat to watch some of the other people open his gifts. He's apparently proud of his selection this year. (things which range from giving Yamato that key to getting Junko a kimono he's actually handing down from one of the women in his old pack who may or may not have been his mother to getting Veronica and Ada lockets both (which don't match perfectly, he doesn't want to reveal the secret but Ada can know)) Not to mention Sullivan just distracted everyone from bursting out into a laugh which was too loud for the rest of the room at Emily's gift for him whatever that was. ]

I got the headphones, camera, and the shoes. The computer is [Nariko waves from her spot near Masaomi.] yep, from mom!

[So she didn’t really outclass him in any way, but their parents usually outdo everyone so there’s no use in being upset about it. Yamato gets a smile from Ada, though, but she, like most of the other adults, isn't too gungo ho about opening anything yet. ]

What's with the key, though? [She might as well ask for him.

Emily's gift was a terrible Hotline Bling Christmas sweater and she is very glad he saw the humor in that because it was a grin. But everyone can appreciate Drake's unique music video dancing, it seems. ]

[ Oh good. Oh good, someone asked. Yamato exhales, shaking his head a bit because he didn't want to be caught with his pants down so to speak. He gestures for Junko to get going on more of hears. But no, his attention turns to mom and dad, though he gets some color in his cheeks looking at mom knowing she got him this awesome laptop. The racket was... that was Sullivan. Okay.

... Sullivan no, don't put on the terrible Hotline Blind Christmas sweater right here you're too old for that. Still!

Masaomi, still in the fake beard, explains- ]

That key is the key to a small cabin I've had built on a piece of property we've been sitting on up north for the last several years. I've been planning to resell it, but the market, you know- anyway! It's got much better use for you to use as a shagging weekend retreat!

[ It's more a cottage than anything...

But Yamato blinks once, and then twice. Wait- he- so his dad just gave him a house? (a small one, it's only one bedroom and one bathroom, but he doesn't know that yet) but a house? ]

You worried about the car and you just gave him his own living space.

[Nariko isn't upset but there's a lot of irony in this gesture and she'd be stupid to ignore it.]

This really brings the whole 'we can't compete with our parents' thing to a whole new level. [Are Junko's gifts even cool compared to that? Holy shit. Ah, well. She finally finishes handing everything out and can sit in her own spot on the other side of Koji and Veronica. Most of her packmates got her incredibly practical things like a new book bag for school pens and cute notebooks (both of which had clearly been bought at some Asian store), and other basic supplies. There was also a new potted cactus named 'Tina', according to Ada, cute stuff for her hair a good amount of various jewelry, none of which looked immediately expensive, however.

There's the book from Yamato as well, which distracts her for a moment and she leans over to kiss him briefly for it. She really had wanted this book! She'll make it to the rest of her gifts soon.]

[ Masaomi, for his part- ] That cabin costs less than the car you would have gotten him without my council. [ ... No it wouldn't ] Besides, it doesn't have all of it's utilities up yet, you can't quite live in it.

The camera's amazing, though. [ Yamato clarifies, to Junko! ... But he can't help but look at the key now with- ] Holy shit.

[ ... And they're millionaires now. But still! He feels the need to defend his purchase.

Yamato, for his part, is on baited breath for when Audrey opens her bite, Ada her hat, mom her ring, or Junko... well, the second half of the gift for him. He smiles and leans into the kiss, throwing her out another little wink (he doesn't wink well though, he tries) and ... ( For the record, Junko, Sullivan (as an apology for that awkward moment this last year) got you every season of Scrubs on DVD. He's pretty sure you liked that one)

Mmhm. [Nariko gives him a look that very clearly says 'you're clearly enjoying the money but that's fine you little smartass'. If anything she's very happy that he's going all out, and only mildly huffy that he probably outdid her this year. It could be said that gift giving isn't a competition to begin with but anyone who said that clearly didn't know Nariko at all. She liked to impress just as much as she enjoyed being impressed.

Junko, meanwhile, decides she's going to believe him when he mentions the camera but she's already moved on to enjoying what she's been blessed with. Nariko made her a soft pink pin up dress, one which would inevitably hug every one of Junko's delicate curves and-] This is going to make my boobs look awesome! Mom, you made this?! Oh my god!

[Well, hey, at least Nariko could still impress her daughter! But, then, Junko moves on to her dad's gift, opening it with the same care as her other gifts but when she opens it she stops entirely. The exact design of it doesn't matter, really Junko would be more than thrilled with anything. What matters is that she'd wanted a kimono ever since she was a little girl, and now she examines it very delicately, as if it might fly away from her.]

Dad ... [Yeah, fuck it, she's going to hug the thing right to her stupid reindeer pajamas. When she looks at him it's - Well, she hasn't really looked at her father with such inherent, familial love in a very long time.

(Ignore Nariko tearing up a little and squeezing her mate's arm. He did good, there.)] Thank you.

[It's perfect, and she's so happy and reluctant to let it go, but there's still one left, so she's going to gently arrange it back to where it needs to be, smoothing the fabric free of even a slight wrinkle.]

[ That was Yamato, giving a nervous (because she's still not gotten to the one he put his neck out on the line for) smile and thumbs up at it. ... Why is he giving the peanut gallery here. Octavio should be. Or Koji. But Octavio is too busy trying to explain some joke about elves to anyone who'll listen and Koji is still opening things while watching what Veronica opens. Still... Yamato's breath is taken away at dad's gift. (Mom made that?) ]

[ The design, incidentally, is a blue and yellow floral pattern. But Masaomi... he soaks in that expression with somewhat wide eyes, not sure he ever realized that he missed it. And he clarifies - ] In my birth pack, I'm not clear on who my mother is. So that'll either be from my mother, or one of the other women who raised me - we can call it a family heirloom if you want. Rin brought it over a while ago.

[...... Jesus, he's going to kill her. He gave her something that important? It doesn't feel like something she deserves. It takes a little work to keep from crying but she manages it, setting the kimono right next to her, separate from the other gifts. She might sniffle a little bit but everyone's going to ignore that, right? Right. Definitely.

And then! There's just one left, a tiny little gift wrapped box from Yamato. She looks at him with a raised brow, but she picks it up anyway and opens it with the same care that she showed all of her gifts except. That blue box, she - obviously she knows that and her head whips at him with the worst most accusing look at first. She's thinking he played a terrible prank on her so she opens it without any care and ... Holy shit.

Holy shit.

Junko snaps it shut before Veronica can see what the fuss is about, the little blue box is set back down on the floor in front of her and she looks at her brother again like???? What the fuck is wrong with you bro you??? Got her ????? ThE FUCKING NECKLACE OH GOD?????? Pretty much all of this plays out in her face in a rare show of utter transparency, though she barely makes a sound.

She picks it up again and opens it much more slowly this time and it's. Yeah, it's still there.]

Oh god.

[There it is, a gorgeous pearl necklace with diamonds.]

When did you even do this?! [She's probably going to cry.] Yamato - Thank you! I - I just --

[She keeps stuttering like that so someone should find some way of putting her out her own misery.]

Still, Yamato, for his part, grins, he grins all the wider and looks proud of himself and he is definitely taking Tiffany out on a date. Definitely. But for right now, he's just focused on Junko, and he considers answering when he could do that, but instead he leans over and takes her hands up in his and - ]

No, come on, it's the least I could do. You've been good to me this year.

[ Masomi, for his part, is proud. Both of his son and because both his gifts so far have been received well. No one's gotten to his other than them yet though... Koji looks like he's got it as his next one, as too does Ada seem close to her part of the locket duo he got for her and Veronica. He leans against Nariko and kisses her through the beard ]

[Ada whaps him so hard up the back of his head that Koji might be taken back to his toddler years as a result. It doesn't matter that she has to actually physically stand herself up in order to do this, stop being a little prick you dumbass!!! ... Veronica says nothing because he deserved it and she knows it.

But Junko shakes her head at her brother and moves her hands to hug him, making sure to keep her gift held carefully. She needed this for a lot of reasons. Not because it was expensive or anything like that, but it was something that she loved that someone she loved gave to her just to make her happy and there's ... Something about that, a feeling hidden in that ideal that she'd missed for weeks, ever since their parents made their new shift clear. The cracked part of her that had resulted from that night and that she had tried to soothe with Ethan was finally repairing, and between her father's gift and Yamato's she might just need the eldest to hold her for a little before she asks for his help putting it on.

Which means Veronica (and as a result Koji) are up next. Her pile, while healthy, is a little bit thinner than everyone else's, which makes sense! She hadn't been around for very long but she loves the stationary set, her cookie cutters, as well as all the clothes she got. Apparently it was the go to! More than anything it just makes her happy to feel included.

But she does end up opening her locket in the same moment that Ada does. The differing reaction might be comical to the adults, the only ones to know the situation between them both and the conditions that Veronica joined their pack under. Ada is shocked at first because, really, lockets aren't her thing, but when she sees Veronica she smiles, and looks at Masaomi.]

Ms. Ada, we match! It's so cute!!! [She fiddles with it excitedly, a kitten given something shiny. Can she open it and put pictures in it?]

... Yes, we do. [Ada lets it rest in her hands while Veronica asks for Koji's help in putting it on, of course she's going to thank Masaomi but for reasons that has to wait for just a little bit.

(And for Koji - well, she got him a new soccer ball to practice with, a jersey for his games (Nariko clearly helped her with that one), accessories that fit whatever a little shit's aesthetic are but there's one gift that's a little different from the others: It's a plain, handheld little photo album that could fit or be put up just about anywhere. That's the one she's watching out for because she wants to tell him something before he looks at the first and only picture it holds.)]

[ It does take him back to his toddler years, he actually got some war flashbacks from that one, thinking back to of all times the time he threw a toy truck at Yamato's head when he was two. It's a time he can barely remember, that short lived era... Still, he nurses it gingerly and pouts. You're all jerks, that was comedy gold right there (no it wasn't and he wasn't even trying to be funny)

Sullivan has by now gotten the sweater on, and he's very pleased with it, flexing for Emily to show his lack of muscles and trying to copy the hotline blind moves in a way which shows he's not watched the video basically at all. Octvio has to stand to match the moves better, showing him how it's done. Adults are so silly, it seems.

As for Masaomi ( and yes, they can put pictures in them, both of them are empty) he doesn't expect a thank you right now, Ada had wanted it to be secret and even if the ethos did value honesty, he also accepts Ada's wishes here. It's why he got it for both of them and offers no real explanation for it.

Koji is more than willing to help her put it on though, moving her hair a little to secure the chain on the other side of her neck. He's by now opened the jersey (which surprised him, she hasn't had a chance to see him play in this off season, and he kisses her for in a sweater way than he usually would) but he's not gotten to the others yet, and in fact this distracted him from his father's gift for him, mostly he's just opened video games so far. And a few sick T-shirts. ]

There, got it! ... Which one next?

[ Because Veronica's been watching him, so she must want one in particular. So his mom's and dad's will have to wait if either is special.

... Koji got Veronica a a replica of the magic carpet from Aladdin. It's clearly store-bought, but he at least would need to go to a specialty place to get it as a small rug like this. He also got her a cute bra he made Emily help him pick out and he (somewhat off-centerly) had pressed on some letterings onto a white T-shirt which says "I'm fucking the star player" ]

[Emily is recording everything they do on her phone, though she's being very covert about it.

After Veronica has her necklace on she's more than happy to get that kiss and respond to it! She'd been a little worried about what to get him but his mom had the perfect suggestion! She can't wait to see him play in it.]

Oh. This one! If you don't - If it's okay! [Masaomi and Nariko have obviously gone leagues above everyone so now she's worried about the simplicity of it. But she hands it over anyway. When he opens it the picture is, of course, of the both of them! But it was taken on one of the first occasions they went out, one of the incredibly rare instances where sex didn't dominate whatever they'd been doing at the time. It was difficult for her to keep her hands off of him, but Veronica really did enjoy spending time with him.

It had been taken at the arcade, she'd gone with Koji and his friends after school and mostly ... Been kind of bored. But he'd won her a stuffed bunny from the crane machine and been placated. She took a picture of them both with her cell phone, the toy between them like a funny cock blocking best friend. They're both smiling, and it's an incredibly happy picture.]

Koji ... I know we haven't known each other long but you make me really happy and I don't think I'd get along with everyone if you hadn't taken the time to help me! [No she's not blushing shut up.] S-So. I want to keep doing new things together and having fun and take a lot of pictures. Because I want to remember everything I do with you.

[Emily is staring at them now, and Ada's so narrow eyed that you almost can't see her eyes.

[ Well that sort of ruins the dance off, doesn't it - ... okay no, it doesn't ruin it, but it does distract from it, particularly when Tom turns to Octavio and pinches his ass for him to stop because this is way more interesting. He also turns to Audrey and asks her if she knows what's going on over there. Which is a question that Yamato echoes at Junko and Masaomi...

He giggles into Nariko's shoulder.

But as for Koji, his expression is wide at first, and then his cheeks color too, because - because this was in - everyone could see this! And he reaches down to brush the picture ]

That bunny looks like he's getting in the way with this shot. [ He says that first, because of course he does. But then he inhales, looks over at Veronica... ... and he smiles. It's a much more sincere smile than most see on him, much wider and toothier than all the smirks most people see when he's competing or being shitty. And he responds, ] You take the pictures, and I'll put them in here, babe. I want to remember them too, after all.

[Yeah, they're mates. The way they look at each other and how easily they both respond to one another - it's so easy to spot when Nariko's had that for so long. When Masaomi laughs into her rolls her eyes and sighs, reaching over to hold him a little close. Maybe she should feel nostalgic or pained to see her son growing up but it actually makes her happy. Koji and Veronica are good for each other and they'll be alright. She might need to help Ada through this, though.]

I think I can do that! [Veronica, holding his (mostly) home made bra in her hands, leans over to kiss him and she definitely takes her time with it. She's totally gonna wear this when they fuck again! Which'll probably right after everyone's free to do as they want for the day.

But, yeah, his parents gifts!!! And then Veronica will give the Alpha and his bitch theirs!]

[ That bra ... man he hopes it looks good on her. He imagined it would, he was almost positive it would, but shopping for other people was never his forte, just like his brother. ... Dad, what's this? [ Koji asks this with a tone somewhere between a whine and a confused note, because it's whiplash after the make out there and the sentimentality of Veronica's gift. Because it's -- a right handed glove? ]

That, Koji, is a remote press glove. It's half of a set, the other one should be in the bottom of the box [ And the other half of the set is a vibrator and some nipple clamps ] and if you squeeze the glove's hand, you can stimulate the rest of those remotely for a mile or three.

[Nariko got him weights - And they aren't even starter ones, as Koji would likely just be insulted by that but. Hopefully he doesn't overdo it with that. But what Masaomi gets him is ... Even Nariko doesn't know what it is until Masaomi explains and while Junko (whose still kind of leaning on Yamato) doesn't get it at all Nariko does. Of course Masaomi would give that to Koji, of all people.

Veronica opens the box a little more to look at what she thinks will be another glove but it's - There's --!!!]

[She closes it very quickly and just. Discreetly tries to hide it behind them, although that's impossible since the love seat is only big enough to hold them both and hardly anything else. But she does pick up the gift she intends to give to Masaomi and Nariko but she'll wait for their permission to come over or something! ... They still make her kind of nervous.]

[ Koji, even in a group setting like this, smirks at her and mouths "You'll wear these" to her. Still, he will leave it at that, because it might be better to save them for later. But seeing where she's looking - he gives her a push towards his parents. And Masaomi notices it then too and waves her over.

It's not like any of the idiot trio or Emily (whom he somehow got a full star wars themed piercing set for every piercing on her body for) or Audrey seem to have gotten to his gifts for them yet so why not? ]

[She's never used toys, though!!! But let's face it, he's definitely right and she's not against it so much as a little nervous and confused as to how something like that is supposed to feel. But hey, she'll find out later. Right now Koji pushes her and she stumbles a bit, tries to straighten her Christmas dress before she goes up to them.]

I can't begin to imagine what my life would be like if I wasn't here. Even though it was sudden, I feel like this is where I belong, there isn't a doubt in my mind. I love everyone here but I think we can all agree that this pack is made on you both, and we're better off for that.

[Here she kind of awkwardly holds out the little box.] So it only seemed right to get you a gift that only works when you both put it to use!

[No matter who opens the plainly wrapped little box the result is the same: It's a set of cuffed earrings. The piercing on one is a sun, and along the chain rests a little Beta pendant in silver, and the other is much the same except it's a crescent moon, and the alpha symbol that rests below the cuff.]

Veronica, this is wonderful. [Look, Nariko loves it instantly. It's incredibly personalized and she must have had it made, it was a lot of work and effort to go through for people she had only just met.]

[ It's Masaomi who opens the box, really surprised to see that she did it, but also grinning under the fake beard at the speech, glancing between Veronica, the box, Ada, and Nariko. andh e settles back down into the box to see--

Oh these are gorgeous. [ He says that reverently. He dangles the moon one in his hand, finding some pleasant irony in that these entail. The Alpha who commands the pack and the beta who supports him, and yet Nariko is the sun who gives life to everyone and the moon is the imitation of light which chases the son. Or at least, that's what he thinks immediately. And he - ]

Nariko, let's put 'em on. [ They can put them on each other even if it's a hassle right now ]

[It was that symbolism that sparked the idea in the first place, and it's certainly how Veronica sees them. They're hardly perfect - no one is, she knows that very well - but she's never seen a pair of mates so cohesive and symbiotic. It only seemed right that they should have something which might begin to communicate that to everyone who saw them.

Nariko picks up Masaomi's to put it on his right ear, carefully hooking the cuff along the curve of his ear while Veronica beams. It looks good on him! ... Even with that beard in place. Nariko can't seem to stop smiling at him despite the fact that she isn't wearing the matching one just yet - Masaomi has to put that one on! ]
