[Futurelandia] The Thanksgiving and Early December Post

[ It's been around a month since everything started to change. And frankly, a damn sure more things have changed even in that month. There's simplistic ones, such as Masaomi getting a vasectomy which even if he tried to keep it on the downlow, everyone found out about because of what a whiner he was for his week of medical abstinence and everyone felt after that for how he proceeded to fuck every relevant woman in the house and who would sleep with him out of the house into submission for the next two or three days. Everyone sort of had a rude awakening there.

But then, some changes were bigger and more serious. A new member joined there pack (Veroncia) not all that long ago, and it was much to everyone except some of the adult's surprise. Everyone had to learn their new pecking order and where she fit in with the rest of them. Masaomi and Nariko continued their rituals and continued their seeing other people, to mixed results from both. Audrey was hanging around the house more, though she hadn't had the recommended Talk with Masaomi about joining, despite making this something of a second home for her. And of course, Junko's training continued despite the week long hiatus from it.

Everyone was changing, and everyone was adapting. Yamato even had a sexy car now. And at the culmination of everything, a sort of milestone in the midst of everything, there was Thanksgiving, the lead up to it, and the follow up after it leading into December. A time when a lot of people hung out in one house, and then things got weirdly tense for a variety of reasons. God bess us, every one. ]

[No one ever takes her seriously. Ethan would probably get her a puppy if she mentioned it to him.]

Because I worry about you and I need you to be okay by the time you graduate.

[It would be around the time that he might be making decisions in regards to college and such, what path he might really want to take his life on.] There are going to be times I'm not there to help you, Yamato. [She can't help thinking about the night their parents told them about their newly opened relationship. How Yamato had freaked out, how easy it had been to ease him back into focusing, how automatic it was to respond.]

I just want you to succeed, that's all.

[It was all she ever wanted, and helping someone towards that was one of the ways she expressed her love.]

[ His memory of that night was a little bit different, he remembered that night with some amount of pride, that he had managed to hold it together, at least a little, and help out his younger siblings... at least a little. But it's true then and it's true now that he's depended on Junko. In reality, he sort of always did from the moment she became more independent and more smart than him the moment he started high school. But he-- okay, he swallows and then answers her directly. Let's try to do this without studying- ]

Right now I've been -- working really hard at Tennis. If I can get good enough to place high in a regional within the next two years I've got -- you know. A real shot at going pro. But if I can't do it in that time, before I get that much closer to graduating [ So more or less around the same time he'd take the SAT, or at least the school mandated one ] I'll figure the rest of it out.

[ . . . ] A-and. And. I don't just want to get you a thanks for the sex gift I-- I wanted to get one which'll really impress you.

[ He smiles a little ] I'll work it out.

[The first thing that stands out to her is that he isn't planning for anything else in the meantime. He'd need complete dedication to his practice if he wanted to make regionals but if he wasted all the time not spend practicing then he'd get to the end and have to start all over again. To Junko that's the definition of inefficient but she knows to calm herself.]

Okay. [It's in that moment that she realizes she'd worry about him even if he was a million dollar pro with a bunch of sponsorships. He's her brother, she loves him, and it's impossible to not keep him in her thoughts. It'll be that way when she goes off to college, and when she leaves their pack.]

I just told you that you don't need to do any of that, though.

[What's the point in trying to impress her, really? Augh. Veronica's gift is paid for and she hooks the bag on her elbow. They're now off to handle Tom, Emily, and Sullivan all in one go.]

[ He proves he really and truly is his father's son in this moment, even if so much of his attitude is all his mom's. Because his answer to that is a really simply one, taking her hand as well when he answers, ]

But I want to.

[ And that's that. It's that weird sense of selfness which defined their father, and sometimes made him hard to live with.

With her hand held, he actually takes the lead into them going wherever they are going for the next few people. Are the returning these cookie cutters? ]

[It's not fair when they resemble each other so much.

In part because she doesn't know what to say to that, and the only thing she can really do is hold his hand back and sigh. It's so loud that it would be understandable if he didn't hear or catch the gesture on her part at all. But, no, they're not going to return the cookie cutters just yet because the longer they spend in line without buying stuff the more they lose their chance to get what they need. This is a battle against other people as much as it is a battle against time.

They can walk in general, comfortable silence for a little while.]

[ It was a comfortable silence... which is good. Sure he'd been working and practicing obsessively (and doing poorly on his exams...) but he felt like he wasn't really around her all that much these last few weeks. Marching through the mall like this and holding her hand just felt good for him. Yamato's lips curl up into a smile as he shuffles through the mall.

But the time they get closer to the destination, he's - ]

Thanks for helping me, by the way. What're we getting for Sullivan?

[They really hadn't seen much of each other, no. If anything Junko had been spending the most time with Emily, she was a great study partner, and Junko's SAT/ACT exam was already set, she needed to be ready for it above nearly anything else. It is nice to spend time with him but for whatever reason, it also reminds her of how utterly screwy things are with Ethan, and how for as weird and unsettling as that guy might be she's enabled him the whole way.

Now might be a good time to share but she keeps her mouth shut.]

I think you already said thank you for it, though. [He'll say it again when he buys her dinner, so he really doesn't need to be so over-appreciative.]

New cufflinks because his are worn to hell and back.

Man, he really does wear those things, doesn't he?

[ But then, the did work in an even more real job-job than their father, so perhaps it's not even that surprising. Yamato laughs sheepishly, and - ]

So we're going to the tailor place now?

[ He will thank her again at dinner. ... and then maybe they could fuck in the car. .... why is his mind going there? He blinks, and sniffs the air - ... Oh, okay. She had a little leak of her scent there, probably not enough for anyone else to notice, just a little to draw him in to her ]

[People who wear suits as often as their dad and Sullivan needed those little details to tie things together! But she shakes her head.] Jewelers. We can get Tom's watch, Sullivan's cufflinks, and I can pick up the necklace I got Emily and you can get her the matching earrings.

[So they'll knock out multiple birds with very few stones! But they're about there anyway, and it's good to be able to finish most of it within just an hour or so. The sooner they were away from all these crowds the better.]

Oh... yeah, earrings would be easier to match than a naval piercing.

[ Apparently, his mind is not. In the best place for these things if he doesn't realize that. Still, Yamato nods and goes along with it. There's details to discuss about the watch in particular, but the trip to the jewelers does promise to be relatively quick and painless until Yamato realizes - ]

Hey, is the more expensive ring for Nariko here?

[That's what he was going to get her? Goodness. But they do make it to the jewelers, so they just need to pick the watch itself and the cufflinks. Junko only needed to pick up the necklace, and there weren't too many different matching sets for Yamato to pick. It only takes Junko a moment to politely explain to the helpful salesgirl what they're here for. Then she can answer him.]

You're not the only one mom bangs but I still don't call her by her name. [What is even up with that, Yamato.]

Anyway, no, it's at another store, and it has to be the last place we go to before dinner.

It's... it's a whole thing. We had this big... talk thing and - [ He shrugs ] It's just kept going like that. It's probably weird. Or something.

[ Actually he knows it is. but still.

He rolls his shoulders as he waits for the earring options, looking a little bit flustered to have to confront it directly. He didn't realize what a habit it had become. Still- he can't help but rib Junko with- ]

Besides, isn't dad Master for you?

[ Though she hadn't been doing that since studying started... and ended. ]

[It's not the difference in name calling that really strikes her as odd, rather it was that only Yamato had been afforded that to begin with.]

I did, but I still don't call him 'Masaomi'.

[It would just be weird, though every time she'd had little fantasies about being more important to him, more than just his daughter (because that sure as hell wasn't a position that earned her much affection), it had included doing normal couple things which might also reasonably include first names.

The necklace comes out and she pays for it without thinking too much about it. ]

[ was it that weird? It might be that weird. He'll ask Mom - Nariko? whatever. He'll ask her tomorrow maybe. Still - ]

Did? What, is it over now?

[ He probably shouldn't be this casual about it. But oh well, he hums a little at this and he picks out the matching earrings and pays for them - ... wow. Okay, so he has to use credit already. Okay, so he'll just charge and go from there. ]

I've been busy with school. [They were let out over a week ago.] And then he had the whole thing with our weird grandmother. [Masaomi probably would have made time if she'd expressed an interest.]

It's just. Y'know.

[She looks over options for Tom and points out a tasteful men's watch, one that wasn't too bling-y but remained suitably manly.] It doesn't matter either way. The whole point of all that was to make me less prudish about sex and that's what happened.

But you were all excited to be getting along better with dad. I know you were.

[ Or at least, he thought she was. Thought she could read her better than that. If dad was really that busy... did he need to confront dad to try and make more time for Junko? He frowned a little, looking at the watches too, but in all honesty, he's mot distracted by Junko ]

[Rare was the situation that such a thing could be said and it wasn't an insult. If Audrey was happy with how things were? Great. But Junko liked the sexual freedom, not the complete inability to function outside of actually having sex. Logically there could be a compromise between those two extremes, but it seemed to go against her fathers overall goal.]

Look, I know it's weird or whatever, we really don't need to go over that again.

[She's going with this watch, and picking up the set of cufflinks for Sullivan that she'd seen a week and a half ago. ... And since Yamato's paying more attention to her now he might notice the she does look a little - sad, actually. ]

[ He does notice that, and he frowns a little. Was Junko not happy with it then? Maybe she was, and maybe she wasn't. He's pretty sure she wasn't, based on the expression and the result. The boy frowns, and he looks down at his hand before he looks back at Junko. Not wanting to be the house whore... huh ]

No one said you had to be.

[ But... ] I'm sure he could be reasoned with. I mean. He's our dad.

[ But she also said she didn't want to talk about it. Should he drop it? He frowns, and hr reaches out to put a hand on her shoulder ]

[When he touches her shoulder she looks up at him, and it's the whole thing or maybe the way he says it, the fact that he's showing concern but her eyes well up with tears almost instantly.] You're right.

[She manages to reach up and squeeze his hand but she's quick to turn away and try to hide her sniffle under the sound of getting their purchases. It doesn't really work, but there's an attempt!]

Come on, we're already about done!

[Junko does her best to sound cheerful, but her voice is a little too thick for that. She'll be fine, dammit.]

We have to return the cookie cutters, finish up Octavio and Audrey, and then mom should be last.

[ ... Did he seriously just have a breakthrough with her in like five seconds there? Or was she faking it for his benefit? He's not sure either way, but he just accepts it as that, squeezing her shoulder and pulling her into a half-hug. But she quickly brushes past him, and he nods, putting on a smile for her as he says, warmly ]

So am I on my own for dad and Koji? Oh wait, dad was the tablet, duh.

[ But he nods, if they're returning, he can lead this time, tugging her with a held hand ]

[He did, but she doesn't like crying in public! It's embarrassing and ridiculous, and they've already gone over some of what she'd inevitably talk about. There's no use in having the same conversation twice. Besides, the way he holds her hand is more comforting than anything else.]

Oh, I actually wanted your help with Koji. What systems does he have?

[And the tablet was for their dad, yes. She squeezes his hand and steps in a little closer than she might need to even with the crowds. Don't judge her.]

[ Junko are you really that out of the loop on video games... Still, Yamato leads them now, making sure to firmly hold her hand and laughing a bit. ]

He's got a PS4 and I guess he's got the old 360 too? But that's not going to have anything new for it. [ Hr shrugs ] Mom bought him a Wii-U but he returned it when no one was paying attention.

[ which is a shame, Yamato liked the Wii-U. Also she's mom in this context because this is a mom-thing that she did. Obviously. ]

[Koji's usually a little shit but, wow. If he didn't like it why didn't he just ask Yamato or Junko if they'd like it? She's going to punch his arm when she gets home. And, really, Junko just mixes up what a PS4 and Xbonx One are because they're both black and kind of big looking and she doesn't care what a game is running on anyway. She can remember the Wii U because of the gamepad.]

So it'd work out better if we got him an Xbox One, then?

[ Hmmm. He considers that... and then nods ] It'd cost less than getting him some gaming PC anyway. We'll just get him the new Halo and point out it an an exclusive and he'll probably like it.

[ That seems about right. ]

... But yeah, seriously. I miss the Wii-U.

I wanted to play Mario Maker.

[She likes Princess Peach the best. Sigh.]

If he returns it I'm kicking his ass, though. They're on sale but that's still pretty damn expensive! [Koji's fucking game console costs more than what she's getting Emily and Octavio for goodness sake. He's her brother so of course that warrants a little more spending but.]
