[ Their pack's Christmas tended to be one which was full and chaotic, despite the fact that there were increasingly less children in the house as Yamato and Junko (and yes, Koji too) all grew to maturity. In some ways, this was actually more "kids" than had been in the house for it than in a long time, what with their new additions.

Still: Masaomi, Nariko, Ada, Sullivan, Emily, Octavio, Tom, Yamato, Junko, Koji, Veronica, and Audrey - Twelve people with at least one gift for everyone else, often times more in the case of those who were more generous or had deeper pockets or more to impress others with. The sheer number (even if it had grown over time) is probably what prompted them to set up a grate tree in one of the living room spaces which was probably meant to be a formal dining room and then lay out all the presents from everyone wrapped up under it andt hen sprawled out for a wide area around it all. There's chairs set up in a circle around the room to give everyone room to sit and the first one there (Which if, of course, Masaomi) brought bags for the wrapping paper to go into a recycle.

Also Masaomi has on a santa hat and a fake beard. Both of which Ada picked out years ago, and he wears mostly out of tradition. It's similarly out of tradition that he got up at the ass crack of dawn to sit in the room and eat some rice before anyone else got up, wait for them all to filter on in here usually starting with Ada or Sullivan or in recent years his eldest son so people can start to make breakfast and be ready. But either way, breakfast and present opening in the morning! A white elephant gift exchange game in the afternoon! A big dinner in the evening!

Christmas is a time of togetherness, where there has to be some structure, but there's a lot which can happen beyond all that and often did. Movies watched, songs sung, and even if this year of different and strange for a variety of reasons... well. It was still their day, and everyone would enjoy it. ]

To be without Alfred for the entire night, up to midnight, when just thinking about him too much could drive her insane? It wasn't going to happen.

It's good that he understands but she has to wonder if he really is a little upset - at least until she sees him smile, and of course that's what relaxes her. She always loved his smile.]

[ Nothing but family and mateship lasts forever. And even many of those could crumble. Masaomi was a selfish man who wanted to hold on to as much as he could for as long as he could. Maybe it was his nature or maybe it was how it was raised... but even he knew that it wouldn't last forever. Not really. Still, something in his heart does flutter a little at her expression.

[In another life and time they might have been more to each other. In yet another version of events Charlotte might have left her pack, and brought herself and her son to the Kida clan. Alfred and Yamato would remain partners, Charlotte and Nariko would become like sisters, they would be happy. She would belong. But that's not the way it happens and it won't, and that's okay. She's happy to still be wanted by him, and to have this quiet little exchange of happiness, even if it won't compare to Alfred, and she can't hope to compare to Nariko (and doesn't want to, besides).

Still, his request is the last thing she would have expected.]

What ever are you talking about?

[She's ... Very surprised.]

[ He somehow seems oddly vulnerable in this moment, smiling for her. In truth, he'd been considering for a while if he should talk out to her how hurt Nariko had been by her words. Be it with words for violence - breaking her nose or telling her off. This moment though.. it wouldn't be right. Instead, he shakes his head and says, frankly... ]

It's a little counter intuitive, I'm sure, but Nariko doesn't necessarily have many friends. [ A beat, and - ] I know you two are friends, though, and I was going to ask you to continue it.

[Okay, that's a lot clearer!]

I hope we're friends. She's been very distant lately. [It's funny that they're both thinking of the same issue without going directly into it.] But she is dear to me, and I'll do my best. To say it plain, in a sense, I don't want to lose either of you.

Maaaah. Of all things, I think she was jealous.

[ Of her own mate? Of her? Something, really. He shakes his head ] We've talked, and I can hope she won't be - but you're a sweet woman, Charlotte, so I doubt that loss'll happen.

[ He's not sure if he should reveal Nariko's secrets like that. She might be resentful. But all the same, if he leaves it at that, allows her to change the subject... ]

Hmm.

[She looks at him real hard and then ... Reaches over to flick his forehead!] You didn't double check or do any relationship maintenance, did you!

[She rolls her eyes.] The answer is no because you're a Man.

[Not a 'man' but a 'Man'. There was a difference. She sighs, though, and easily goes back to smiling.] You did say 'was', though. I'll think up some friend-surprise and we'll talk.

[Well, considering how relaxed he is she's going to guess that whatever has gone on has been resolved, and though she could almost lecture him it's not her place to do so. Masaomi is a grown man, she won't baby him, but she will trust her instincts and repair a friendship that's very meaningful to her. But she leans over to kiss his cheek just because it's such an overbearingly sweet moment.]

You know, I thought you were at least going to ask me to suck you off or something! You really are a great guy.

[She always knew that, of course, but he could stand to hear it right now.]

[ He mutters this out, but it's deliberately loud enough to her to hear. The fact of the matter is that... well. It's honestly because of the fact that she wasn't his mate, wasn't even in his pack that he wouldn't be demanding in this moment. Being demanding was when they were having fun, it was something she volunteered into. This was him imposing on her, even if it's imposing in a positive way. Still, he shakes his head and exhales out of his nose ]

[ That said, it's questionable if he could be that selfish when Nariko was involved. It's paradoxical, really, to how domineering and seemingly heartless he could be that he does fret about her pleasure... sometimes even to the detriment of that same pleasure. And it's only gotten "worse" with age, this sense of concern. Still, he wouldn't trade off that part of him, he's decided. It's sometimes the wrong instinct, but it's not a bad one, to try to grow as a person.

Still, while his smirk is lewd, he does have a genuine look of affection at that pep. ]

[ Man, of course, being the key word here, if he was her real mate. He'd sort of met the boy here and there when he was Yamato's doubles partner but this would be sort of a re introduction ]

[There's no doubt in her mind that he is, which might not be too convincing since Charlotte had apparently been fooled for the better part of a decade the first time around! Still, she smiles a little wider.] Thank you for being so understanding - about all of it.

[That she wasn't as limitless as Nariko or as confident as other types of women. Charlotte knew what she was, so while she could attract plenty of sexual attraction it could be difficult for her to make friends, sometimes.]

Do you have any other plans for the night? Or, I suppose you could go out with Nariko! She'd like that.

Acha... I would, but she made plans because I made plans. Still, I've got a not insignificant pack! I'm sure that there's someone I can make plans with.

[ He claps his hands together at that. Honestly, being reminded of his plans being imposed on like this does make him want to be at least a little more mean to Charlotte. As their water comes, finally, he looks around the patio again and inhales deep, as if seeing if the scent of honey was still dominating the air around them.

He leaves her thanks sitting there. Because... well, he only did what felt right and natural to him. So a little bow of his head should be all he needs to confirm he understand her ]

[She almost feels like she deserves that meanness, but it wouldn't really do any good, would it? So there's no use in asking to be put through it. And, in truth, their water finally arrives because the normal conversation has relaxed her enough that it's bearable to be near her.]

The job Masaomi worked and just how he handled himself didn't imply riches, so it might be clear to her that he did work a lot to make it a reality... or maybe she just thought Nariko came fro money because she dresses too rich for her blood. [She doesn't know! But she does know they can have a perfectly wonderful lunch that, maybe somewhat unfortunately for him, is devoid of anything else. She can't really think of anything but Fred to begin with, and it's not like she hurts for topics to go over one way or the other. All said and done Charlotte probably takes up a good hour of his time when he might need to get back sooner than that.

Whenever Masaomi gets home he'll find the house somewhat empty in that sense that, well, Nariko isn't there! Who knows where she is, but it's not there.

Emily, however, is another story, she's currently running around in an incredibly tight dress and:]

Who he begged to come too in order to not make it weird. ... He is forty years old.)

It's true that the lunch with Charlotte was long, but it wasn't bad. They talked about life and times, their kids' school, any sort of programs she might have watched recently, current events. It was just a pleasant time all around really. But when he comes home to that...

[Martin was, after all, a gangly sort of man with no real strength to his name. Masaomi might be older but Emily wouldn't put it past him to still pull some real damage if he was genuinely angry.]

He's decided to stay at school and finish his term project with his lab partner. [She rolls her eyes, finally relaxing enough to lean against the kitchen counter. The stuff that's meant to go in her clutch is still scattered all over the counter, but she'll put it all together soon enough.]

So now I'm going to a party that his club friends are throwing! I don't even know the first thing about Agriculture. Except that it's a lot more complicated than I'd originally thought.

[ He says this with some sarcasm largely because he's almost certain that she won't. He's pretty sure they're serious - Emily hasn't actually brought him around to introduce them all, but he'd been hearing about him more and more and he dominated more and more of her social life every day. That more than anything was reassuring.

... Still, an agricultural party? That just sounds... lame. But what does he know, he never went to college. But he knows he does look Emily up and down, looking at the piercings which are visibly above her clothing (ears, probably nose, maybe others?) to assess if she has more "fun" ones in mind. Or maybe even the star wars ones he got for her.
