[ Their pack's Christmas tended to be one which was full and chaotic, despite the fact that there were increasingly less children in the house as Yamato and Junko (and yes, Koji too) all grew to maturity. In some ways, this was actually more "kids" than had been in the house for it than in a long time, what with their new additions.

Still: Masaomi, Nariko, Ada, Sullivan, Emily, Octavio, Tom, Yamato, Junko, Koji, Veronica, and Audrey - Twelve people with at least one gift for everyone else, often times more in the case of those who were more generous or had deeper pockets or more to impress others with. The sheer number (even if it had grown over time) is probably what prompted them to set up a grate tree in one of the living room spaces which was probably meant to be a formal dining room and then lay out all the presents from everyone wrapped up under it andt hen sprawled out for a wide area around it all. There's chairs set up in a circle around the room to give everyone room to sit and the first one there (Which if, of course, Masaomi) brought bags for the wrapping paper to go into a recycle.

Also Masaomi has on a santa hat and a fake beard. Both of which Ada picked out years ago, and he wears mostly out of tradition. It's similarly out of tradition that he got up at the ass crack of dawn to sit in the room and eat some rice before anyone else got up, wait for them all to filter on in here usually starting with Ada or Sullivan or in recent years his eldest son so people can start to make breakfast and be ready. But either way, breakfast and present opening in the morning! A white elephant gift exchange game in the afternoon! A big dinner in the evening!

Christmas is a time of togetherness, where there has to be some structure, but there's a lot which can happen beyond all that and often did. Movies watched, songs sung, and even if this year of different and strange for a variety of reasons... well. It was still their day, and everyone would enjoy it. ]

[Charlotte spent the majority of the days after Christmas attached to Alfred, nearly unable to let go of him. She had never felt such a desire to absolutely smother someone in love, affection, and sex. She had been utterly attentive to Edmond, of course, but this ... She wanted to do it. Honestly, he was thinking it was because Alfred reminded her of Edmond, but maybe, even if it makes no sense chronologically, the reverse was true. And in that moment he feels a terrible and exciting fear about which way that falls with him and Nariko, or if that's even related. But still... ]

[ And he giggles all the more now, trying to hold back fro making a scene but come on, with this smell? ]

[She flushes, but there's a smile on her face. And at their table she's only just off to the side of him rather than directly across. But then the flat hand raises and holds of a finger, ]

[In another life and time they might have been more to each other. In yet another version of events Charlotte might have left her pack, and brought herself and her son to the Kida clan. Alfred and Yamato would remain partners, Charlotte and Nariko would become like sisters, they would be happy. She would belong. But that's not the way it happens and it won't, and that's okay. She's happy to still be wanted by him, and to have this quiet little exchange of happiness, even if it won't compare to Alfred, and she can't hope to compare to Nariko (and doesn't want to, besides).

Still, his request is the last thing she would have expected.]

What ever are you talking about?

[She's ... Very surprised.]

[ He somehow seems oddly vulnerable in this moment, smiling for her. In truth, he'd been considering for a while if he should talk out to her how hurt Nariko had been by her words. Be it with words for violence - breaking her nose or telling her off. This moment though.. it wouldn't be right. Instead, he shakes his head and says, frankly... ]

It's a little counter intuitive, I'm sure, but Nariko doesn't necessarily have many friends. [ A beat, and - ] I know you two are friends, though, and I was going to ask you to continue it.

[Okay, that's a lot clearer!]

I hope we're friends. She's been very distant lately. [It's funny that they're both thinking of the same issue without going directly into it.] But she is dear to me, and I'll do my best. To say it plain, in a sense, I don't want to lose either of you.

Maaaah. Of all things, I think she was jealous.

[ Of her own mate? Of her? Something, really. He shakes his head ] We've talked, and I can hope she won't be - but you're a sweet woman, Charlotte, so I doubt that loss'll happen.

[ He's not sure if he should reveal Nariko's secrets like that. She might be resentful. But all the same, if he leaves it at that, allows her to change the subject... ]

Hmm.

[She looks at him real hard and then ... Reaches over to flick his forehead!] You didn't double check or do any relationship maintenance, did you!

[She rolls her eyes.] The answer is no because you're a Man.

[Not a 'man' but a 'Man'. There was a difference. She sighs, though, and easily goes back to smiling.] You did say 'was', though. I'll think up some friend-surprise and we'll talk.

[Well, considering how relaxed he is she's going to guess that whatever has gone on has been resolved, and though she could almost lecture him it's not her place to do so. Masaomi is a grown man, she won't baby him, but she will trust her instincts and repair a friendship that's very meaningful to her.
