[In a way she can't help giving him shit, though she wouldn't be able to say why, exactly. At least now it's all in good fun.] My friend's hosting a party and she's nervous so I'm going to be playing backup I have to look good. But not so good that I invite pick up lines. That's less likely with a 'cute' look than 'sexy'.

[She's really developed her imagination in the last five weeks, since Yamato saw those pictures.] You need a guy's opinion for something that specific, and you didn't look busy.

[It might seem like an incredibly bratty thing to say but if he really doesn't want to bother, well, it's an out. She'd be a little upset if he left, though. But the chance has arrived since the Kida kid's floor is very near the library and she gives him a look while opening her door. Run while you can, Rin, or something along those lines.]

[ Gosh, don't be do bratty. Or do, he doesn't really mind it given a lot of the people in his pack and who he works with. He swears he gets shit from basically all of them. Oh well though, he shakes his head and - ]

Right, right, so we're lookin' for enough to spare a glance at but not bangable. You do know no guy's lookin' at your feet, right? That's mostly on your friend.

[ Because comparing shoes is an activity girls do far more than most guys - particularly ones her age - do. Still, he does step into her room, looking around it as he does. Huh. He's never really been in here before ]

[It was an awkward thing which might point to her rival school's captain having a foot fetish, but all the same.] Besides, don't you want to spend time with your favorite niece? [Then again exactly how much of a choice is there? She's the only kid between her parents but there were other pack members that might have had kids, right?

Rin, she'd better be your favorite, dammit.

Anyway, he's free to sit on her neatly made bed or at her little desk while she bends to get her heels out of her closet. They're white, so they don't really go with the dress but they do make her a little taller! ]

[ Basara had all girls (three of them) and Mikado had one little girl. The others who did have kids only had sons. He doesn't feel the need to clarify about that though because He'll just give Junko the "favorite" title for free just because it is pretty much true. Mikado's little girl is adorable though, a really smart and really precocious twelve year old.

Still, that's all just sort of left in the air (or well, his head) and Rin settles into the room ]

[It might be good that he doesn't come out with it since, really, there's no reason for her to be the favorite? She's a ridiculous, workaholic teenager who thinks too hard, and part of her age means that she hasn't made enough effort to speak with her extended family. In part because she didn't know how to, and also due to the general lack of initiative some people could experience - the kind of out of sight out of mind thing.]

You'd never be useless to me. [It's an incredibly resolute statement but she doesn't think to take it back. She might enjoy messing with him, sure, but somewhere deep in her subconscious Junko knows that it's just an attempt to get a reaction out of him, garner more attention.

She looks at herself in her mirror, frowning.]

Tell that to your old man, he tried to go on three different dates on Valentines when he was yer age. And then had two more people he boned besides.

[ It didn't work out well for him at all. But ah, such was Masaomi's rambunctious youth. Still, he agrees. Five is way too high of number. Still, there's something there... he gives a gentle smile, crossing his hands over his lap and leaning forward towards her. He's disgustingly pleased to hear he won't be useless to her, and it makes him all the more happy in a way the older man was pretty sure he recognized in himself, something he first started to recognize when he visited a few years back and she was nine.

So he's never been one for restraint, then.

[It's not exactly a surprise but there's an odd note of finality in her voice, and she can't help thinking about the openness of her parents relationship. She really hates it when her mother is right about crap like that. But the way he answers her is actually a little comforting. There's a chance Rin would just go tell her dad, and that's what makes her hesitate, their bond as mates might be greater than any sense of confidentiality between herself and her uncle.

But she wants to trust him, and in a sense she can't avoid it. He's easy to talk to.]

I'm sort of dating someone that dad really doesn't like, and mom probably wouldn't either. [Just one or the other was terrifying enough, but for them both to disapprove was just asking for trouble.] And it's not that I don't understand why, they're right to hate him. I kind of hate him too, to be honest. I always have to be in control, and he likes whatever version of me he's thought up, not what's actually in front of him.

[... And yet here she is, picking out an outfit.] And I still have no idea how he found out what size dress I wear.

[That, of all things, will haunt her till the end of time.]

Not really, no. [ but when she says it, it's not about finality, it's a lot more like affection in his voice. His older brother was always ridiculous, and while there was no way he could keep up with it, or even try to (he wasn't Mikado) it was something sort of fun to watch. And now, despite all that, he seems to have a happy house.

Well, mostly happy.

Right now he's... well, he's nothing if not a direct person, and he ends up asking - ]

[ If not, why are they dating? ]

[There's no beating around the idea. She doesn't love Ethan and while Junko had been willing to try and come to love him over time it's just not going to happen. It can't work. Even if she did manage to fool herself for a little while she'd resent whatever life they managed to build together before she came to her senses.] But I liked that he thinks the whole world of me, that he actually thinks about the future and that I'm in it.

[That's all pretty wording, but she's being honest here so Junko sits next to her uncle, and stares at her hands in her lap, wrings her fingers together.]

... I just wanted someone to pay attention to me. Dad's fucking everyone under the sun, mom's still obsessed with him or Yamato, and he completely returns that. Koji's with Veronica, and Audrey's even got Sullivan and Tom.

[She's the only one kind of left off to the side, and it's shit.] I get that it's fucked up and selfish. So I should just end it.

Well yeah, you probably should. [ Let's not get that twisted. That was something which wasn't good for her if she was with someone who mysteriously knew her figure and yet had this vision of the future with her and she didn't agree with it, she didn't love him. He reaches a hand out, wrapping it around her opposite shoulder. ] I mean, if y'don't love the guy a little, what's the point?

[ Particularly for something like that. ] But is it really that bad right now? Who'd be dumb enough to ignore you?

[What, it's true! Yamato had a complete thing for their mom. He did other things, sure, he wasn't one dimensional by any means and neither was Audrey! But they had people they focused on naturally, people they were drawn to but for as beautiful and smart and nice as Junko supposedly was she had yet to pull that out of anyone except for Ethan. So they can resent it all they want: It's still true.

When he puts his arm around her she leans in, tucking her body in towards his a bit. Was he always this solid? It's nice. It's incredibly nice to be up against him like this.] It's not that anyone ignores me, really. I wouldn't have trouble finding attention, necessarily.

[Yamato wouldn't turn her down, neither would either of her parents, or Tom or Octavio or even Emily. Audrey would pretty much jump through hoops and a ring of fire.] But it's always momentary, you know? It's not like the way mom looks at dad, like no matter what he does he's going to be the source of anything good she feels. Or the way Audrey looks at pizza.

[A pause.] I swear to god if she could love a person the way she loves pizza, sometimes.

[Why Junko considers this a fair example is probably a better question.]

And yes he was this solid always he's built of incredibly strong stuff. Rin was as strong as their father back in the day and unlike Masaomi, he's had a physically demanding job that forces him to be in the gym regularly. So he's stayed in shape and could probably bench press her without much issue. Though it does help his shoulders got a little wider as he aged. ]

Huh... [ . . . Honestly, then it's not so much that people are mean to her, or that she's not having an expectation met, it's just that she has something else ] I dunno what pizza has to do with all that, sukiyaki's better this time of year anyway.

And Rin would get the argument as a whole since Junko would prefer authentic Japanese food anyway (Masaomi why can't you/don't you cook more UGH) and her mom would probably agree, so. No, there's not. [That's one thing her father has successfully pushed into her: that she had been wrong to think everyone she fucked had to be a candidate for perfection.] I enjoy it a lot more than I thought I would, and it's not like I haven't learned important stuff from everyone I've been with.

[She's supposed to look for them, rather than be passive about it. Huh. She holds onto him a little tighter, briefly turning her face into his chest. ... Junko's going to ignore the little roll of pleasure that seems to ease through her nerves and then settle between her legs.] So I should stop being so meek, for one.

Maybe. I mean, I don't got a mate, so 'm not gospel or anything. [ A beat - ] But the way I see it, even submissive people gotta find 'n seduce the people what they want to submit to.

[ So yeah, there's nothing wrong with meekness, per se, but it did mean that you were counting on someone else noticing you which ... could happen! It really could and he's known a lot of instances where it had. But nothing can change if you don't have the courage to take the first step.

Masaomi cooks every now and again, but he usually isn't necessarily that good at it. He can make some solid noodle dishes and maybe some good rice balls, but he doesn't consider it anything special and is usually content to let other people could. ]

Besides, that whole special look, even if it's fer pizza for some reason [ maybe it wouldn't be a good thing to meet Audrey... ] you usually can't know to make it 'less you made some other looks first. Like... I don't think yer mom looked at Masaomi with the look she's got now 'til they went and did it, which he kinda forced.

[ Or something like that, he's heard the story a few times, one time weirdly in tandem from the couple as they were both a bit drunk, like it was a meet cute story that involved him beating up people and her falling off a pill ]

[Her parents really have the weirdest origin story and what makes it even stranger is that they're both completely proud of it.

She gives herself time to think about what he's saying, though, which might lead to a little period of silence. It stings a little to know that he's saying a lot of what her father had, which probably means that he was right. She's already made those mistakes, she looked at Yamato, Audrey, and her father that way. But maybe she has to spread out a little more. And stop trying to be exactly like her mother or father, meekness doesn't suit her, but overbearing aggression isn't her thing either. Existing in the middle is weird, but it's probably what she has to parse out with time.

She sits upright again, which takes her from his body heat, somewhat unfortunately.] That's all true, but there's still a problem.

[She taps at her own knee, a slight nervous tic.] ... I've tried hinting at Ethan that we're not a good match and he never really seems to get it. How am I supposed to break up with him without my phone exploding?

[Because he'll probably send her a thousand texts in the span of the first two weeks. Maybe he'd calm down once the worst of it passed but until then? She had trouble believing he'd just lie down and accept. Even if he certainly did that with nearly every other fucking topic.]

[ It is all true, probably. But then, he smirks a little and - ] C'mon, where's that little girl who told me she was gonna be her father's bitch? That was pretty bold!

[ Considering she had whispered it to him like it was some amazing secret when she was like... nine? Something like that, maybe a little younger. He chuckles at the idea of it, and he holds out his hand, as if expecting her to give him the phone. Like she had it on her right now or something.

... And her father is a- well okay he's not necessarily a smart or a wise man, but he was a lucky and an insightful man, when he wanted to be. Rin definitely respects that much in his older brother. ]

She's disillusioned and probably dead. [At first she doesn't understand what he's asking for, and when it clicks she reaches over into her bedside drawer, temporary bracing on one of his knees to make the reach, so she can hand it to him. There's no password on it right now, which was why it had been somewhere no one would really think to look unless they were being suspicious.]

Now there's just the girl that's going to have a cool apartment and a corgi and drink tea every morning. I hope you end up liking her better than an idiotic little kid.

[And she'll figure out the rest as it goes along. Keep trying to find the right person while having fun, that sounded like a good plan right now.

... What does he want her phone for, though?]

[ Particularly when it comes to her, in his mind. But taking the phone, Rin scrolls through the contacts. Let's see here... ... Oh. There's like five standing messages from Ethan on here. so it's probably that Ethan guy (are there any standing messages from anyone else? ... Oh, there's one from Yamato asking her if she can order a pizza. ... Weird. Why can't he just do it himself?) But okay, Ethan...

And he goes to Ethan's text chain, frowns at what's in there, and he types out "We're going to break up, sorry. Talk to you at school tomorrow" And... send! There's a response before he can do the next step, but then he blocks Ethan's number and then deletes the contact ]

It's exactly because he has no restraint that dad'll bang anything that moves or looks receptive. [She can't imagine a type that he wouldn't go for, he's eerily boundless in that way.] Besides, dad's great in his own right but I don't think he's actually my type.

[He was fun, though, and incredibly good at fucking her brains out. Still, she watches him open the text chain,] Rin. [What is he doing. What is he typing?!] Rin!!

[What did Ethan just say? It was probably some long message about how she must be confused or something.] RIN! [By the time she snatches her phone back the contact is gone and like most people dependent on modern phones she can't remember his phone number - she's only got her families memorized.]

Oh man, he's going to follow me all around school now! [Wait.] Fuck what if he shows up here and then I have to tell everyone!

[For being as weirdly harmless as he is Ethan's unpredictable, and she'd sort of wanted to get out of this without letting anyone else know what went on. That might not be possible anymore.]

Well then I guess you gotta tell anyone who sees it.

[ ... Okay so this might be a dick move, but still- ] And you can get any of the people you go to school with to cover for you there if you can't handle it yourself.

[ Rin says all this evenly, encouraging her to both end things - because she didn't like it - and to connect with everyone here because it'll be better for her. That said, it does sort of pain him to make her mad at him, but still. He gives her a little thumbs up at this once she gets the phone back.

Her dad isn't her type, huh... He could argue one wa or another about that, but - ]

[Let's face it, she's probably not going to tell anyone at school unless her life somehow really and truly depends on it. But Rin doesn't know that and she's not going to come right out and explain it, either. Now she just has to make the best of what's already happened. He's never getting her phone again, though.]

At least I don't have to go out, now.

[Audrey had invited her out to something in a text but she's probably not going to do that either. ... Ethan's not stupid enough to really make a huge deal out of this past the first few weeks, right? He's too smart for that! So why does she feel so anxious?]

[ Yamato didn't tend to have dates. He was pretty meek. Or at least he was like three years ago ] Valentines can be a day to hang out with friends and not creepy boyfriends or fake parties.

[ Rin is trying to be supportive for her now, saying this all in a sort of a confused tone. But he does reach his arm out to pull her in towards him again, to hug her close. Actually- ] Speaking of him, he wants you to order a pizza.

[ Just to be fair because he saw that text too ]

Yamato's probably going to try and take someone out. I've never really been fond of Valentine's Day anyway.

[A lot of people probably do go out with their friends or have actual parties that are just for the sake of it, but none of that really sounds fun to her. Emily didn't like the holiday much either so maybe she'd be up for a movie marathon and drugstore chocolate. But when she's pulled in a little more she kind of pouts up at him and, really, she almost wants to punch him in his side. Because that's clearly what she should do to a man probably two whole sizes bigger than herself, and much older than her.

... She doesn't, though. She isn't really upset with him so much as incredibly worried about the whole situation, and a little disturbed at the realization that she's essentially refusing to trust her own pack.]

Seriously? [She hadn't looked at her phone since this morning and so she ends up leaning into Rin and opening Yamato's message chain. Mostly she just asks him why he even wants pizza since Veronica, mom, and Ada are all on dinner prep. They'd actually been able to eat at home a lot more often since Veronica came into their pack.]

How long are you staying, by the way?

Me? Imma be here until a little after Valentines, probably the 16th or something.

[ That said, she should trust her pack, and she should trust it implicitly. That's something he very much believes in, but even as he feels his heart beat increase with her pulled into his chest he ... knows he probably shouldn't say that. But- ]

If you didn't know, more of us are gonna be showing up too, like Basara-niisan.

[ As for Yamato, he responds immediately that it's not for him! He just owes someone a pizza! ]

That's not very long.

[She'll trust them after this thing with Ethan is dealt with.] I think dad said something about it, and I've already decided that I don't want to know what's going on. [Because it has to be one thing or the other. It's not very often that the whole lot of them just show up, almost out of nowhere. She wonders if all the kids will be here, though, or if they're staying behind.

Also who the fuck do you owe a pizza too, Yamato? And why is she ordering a pizza that's not for you in the first place? What in the world.

Anyway, she texts that while looking up at him.] You know, you could stand to visit more often.

[Especially if you're going to show up and knock a third of her life off its axis. At least come around enough that she can get used to it.]
